Warm summer nights at Shell Cottage were precious moments for Victoire and Dominique Weasley. They liked to sit in the sand, in the few hours before dusk, after the family dinner. They’d watch the ebb and flow of the Ocean ; sometimes they’d chatter excitedly, sometimes they’d be quiet and listen to the soothing sound of the waves crashing on the beach.
There was the faint noise of Louis’ squeaks as he was put to sleep and Bill and Fleur exchanging a few words, and it faded away.
Victoire and Dominique were alone with the Ocean. The wind was delightfully refreshing and it moved their hair about. Sometimes it blew strongly, humming, and Dominique thought it sounded like a lullaby.
The girls kept quiet for a moment.

“Victoire?”
“Mmh?”
“Can you tell me about Veela magic?”
Victoire frowned slightly in surprise.
“Oh. Um.. Sure.” Her voice was hesitant. “Well... Do you want to know something in particular?”
“Uuuh... I don’t know. I just... I noticed people look at mum in a weird way sometimes. That’s because of Veela blood, right?”
“Mmh, yes. Veela blood always affects the way people perceive us, but it’s different when you get older. It grows crescendo during puberty, but when you come of age Veela magic hits full strength.”
“But what happens then?” Dominique sounded impatient and a bit worried.
“Well, people grow... lustful towards you.”
Dominique’s brow furrowed.
“Do you mean... that guys are going to want to... touch me and stuff?”
Victoire couldn’t help but smile.
“Yes, you could say that. They’re going to want it very much. Veela magic acts in this certain way, it makes men... unreasonable. Well, even more unreasonable.” She sighed and turned to face her sister. “That doesn’t mean you should let them do anything you don’t want to, though. You know that, right? Your body, your decisions. You don’t owe any guy anything, regardless of the way your Veela magic acts on them.”
Dominique nodded in understanding. Victoire smiled again, and turned back to watch the rolling tides of the Ocean.
“But what does Veela magic do exactly? I’m not quite sure I get it.”
“Ah, well... In general boys will go a little dumb and come after you whenever you shake your hair.”
“Really?!”
“Yeah. Mum’s hair is much shinier than ours, right? Well it’s all about age. Mine is already shinier than yours, but one day we’ll both look like mum hair-wise.”
“But Dad has no Veela blood.”
“Veela blood is not recessive. We’ve never had silvery hair though, it’s always been that copper strawberry blond, and I don’t think that’ll change. It will shine like crazy!”
‘Mmmh. Okay.”
“But... what about girls?”
“What about them?”
“Will they want me too?”
“Um, yes, but... not because of your Veela blood.”
Once again, Dominique’s eyebrows knitted in confusion.
“Why?”
“I don’t know, sis, it’s just the way it is. Men go all crazy because of Veela allure, but it doesn’t work on women.”
They both kept silent for a while, deep in thought.
“Are you asking this because you like girls?”
“What?”
“It’s okay if you do, you know.”
“I don’t- I’m not-”
“Really, it’s okay, I mean, I’m not going to judge you or anything. And nobody should judge you about that, either. I like girls too, you know.”
Dominique turned to her sister, startled by that last declaration.
“You do?”
Victoire laughed at her sibling’s widened eyes. “Yeah!”
“But what about Teddy?”
“Hey, I didn’t say I was a lesbian. I said I liked girls. Doesn’t prevent me from liking boys too, does it?!”
“Oh.” Dominique’s brow furrowed again. “Well. No. It doesn’t.”
“It’s not necessarily either/or.”
“Oh ok. That’s cool.” Dominique seemed to think for a few seconds. “I think I only like girls, though.”
Victoire grinned. “Alright then.”
Dominique smiled back.
