The thing about death is that it's not unlike life.
Good moments flicker past like frames on a movie screen, while bad memories stick like the decade-old glue in between two photographs in an album.
Remus remembers, very quickly, too quickly, the sound of laughter in an abandoned Divination classroom, the comical look on the face of the Professor as Sirius and James scamper off. Other things linger, such as the feeling of seeing the full moon, the taste of blood, the crack of bones.
The thing about dying is that you have to let go of a lot of things, but Remus manages to hold on to the just-right smell of Dora's hair just before everything is gone and all is left is the dark.
