Grimauld place was, for once, completely deserted and silent, and as he stood at the bottom of the stairs there was nothing to suggest the strange scene awaiting as Remus Lupin at the top, in his small, shabby bedroom. As he hung up his coat, wet with snow from the December chill that was swirling outside, he was so absorbed in his own thoughts that he didn’t even notice the thumping that seemed to be coming from his room. In his head, he was planning a romantic evening with Tonks; one that he could hopefully keep a surprise. Which really meant that Sirius had to be kept in the dark. Which could be difficult to do.
Upon opening his door though, all thoughts of such an evening vanished from his mind as his jaw dropped.
He stepped back, glancing down the hall. No, this was definitely his room.
Only, it wasn’t.
The music was so loud he cringed as he stepped forward onto the ramp that lead into a large, brightly lit, orange room. In the centre was a tube reaching to the roof, surrounded by panels with strange buttons, screens, and, oddly enough, a type writer.
Remus blinked. Several times. This was not normal…
It was only then that he noticed Tonks, her bubblegum pink hair clashing brilliantly with the surroundings.
Dressed in shorts, her usual doc martins and weird sisters t-shirt, she was dancing round the room with a tall girl with red hair. Sitting on a double seater at the opposite end of the room were two men; one eccentric looking, wearing a bow tie and suspenders under his tweed jacket. (Remus approved of this jacket very much, even in his state of confusion.) The other wore jeans and a polo shirt, and was calling out to the red haired girl. Remus doubted she could hear him over whatever terrible racket was playing.
Finally, she noticed him.
“Remus!” Smiling, Tonks ran to him- tripping of course, just in time for him to catch her and set her right. Grinning, she grabbed him by both hands, pulling him in and singing loudly.
“I GOT THE MOVES LIKE JAGGER, I GOT THE MOOOOOOVES LIKE JAGGER!”
“Tonks, what-”
She shook her head, pointing at the other occupants in turn. “Amy.” She said loudly in his ear. “Rory. The Doctor. Now, dance? COME ON!”
“But I… what happened to my room?”
She just shrugged. Whatever was happening, he obviously wasn’t going to get an answer while this song was playing.
“Where are my boys?” The red head, Amy called. “Come on, us girls need some men to dance with!” The two men looked at each other, sighed, and shrugged. The one with the bow tie, the Doctor, was the first on his feet, hands above his head as he did his signature move, something, Tonks yelled in his ear, that he called the drunk giraffe.
Amy had pulled Rory to his feet, but after a few seconds he sat back down. She didn’t seem to mind too much though, as Tonks had run back to dance with her. Hands in the air, they were both singing, the glass floor thumping as the jumped.
“TAKE ME BY THE TONGUE AND I’LL KNOW YOU, KISS ME TILL YOU’RE DRUNK AND I’LL SHOW YOU ALL THE MOVES LIKE JAGGER, I GOT THE MOVES LIKE JAGGER, I GOT THE MOOOOOOOVES LIKE JAGGER!”
Never his whole entire life had Remus felt more awkward as he stood in the corner of this strange, seemingly outer-space room, watching his girlfriend dance with people that, for all he knew, could be aliens, about to abduct them.
Rolling her eyes, Tonks was back, planting a kiss on his mouth, her arms wrapping around his shoulders.
“You gonna dance?”
“But where-”
“After this song! Please?”
With a sigh he agreed, letting her drag him forward. Although he could hardly dance well to music like this, he wasn’t about to complain- not with her bare legs against his, her heat radiating, her collar bone becoming suddenly prominent as she turned her neck to speak to Amy, adjusting her shoulder. With a small smile he kissed her jaw to catch her attention; although he hadn’t fully expected her to turn and kiss him deeply in front of a group of strangers (to him, at least.).
The song ended.
“Right.” He said, stepping back. “I want an explana-”
It started again. Tonks smirked, shrugging, before jumping off to dance with the Doctor.
Remus was never going to find out what in the name of Merlin had become of his bedroom. Maybe the Doctor would let him borrow one of his tweed jackets next time he had to go out, as it would seem his had all vanished into thin air.
He wasn’t sure he could pull off a bow tie quite as well though.
