“Draco, I need to know!” She grabbed his arm, holding on desperately, afraid that he might apparate away if she didn’t hold on tight enough.
“Pans, please don’t make this any harder than it has to be,” he told her. She noticed how tired he looked, how worn out. After his failure with Dumbledore he’d been transferred to the fighting squad under Antonin and Dolohov had his ways and his missions. Draco came back from the last one shaking and covered in blood. She had almost cried out when she saw him.
But at the moment, she didn’t care. She wanted to know what the boys were planning that she wasn’t allowed to know. “Harder! Don’t make this any harder!” she nearly shrieked at him, pushing him back against the wall. This deep into Headquarters she wasn’t afraid of anyone hearing them.
Draco let out a frustrated growl and attempted to stare her down. She stared right back. Finally, he seemed to deflate. “Pansy… They’re planning to attack Hogwarts. I’m on the inside squad. Do you know what that means? We’re the one’s cutting off retreats. That means when they evacuate all the kids…we take hostages. We…” he broke off helplessly, rubbing a hand over his face. “Pans?”
She stared at him in horror, her stomach doing a flop. “Oh.” She could hardly breathe not to mention speak.
Draco reached out and touched the side of her face. “Pans. Please, don’t…try to understand. When we said we would fight…you had to know…Please, if you leave me now-“
She shook her head vehemently, shivering at the vulnerability in his voice. “I won’t leave you. Ever.” She put her head against his chest and took in a deep breath. “Ever.”
