Am I the only one who has ever wondered why there are 10 hotdogs sold in a pack, and only 8 buns in a package? Well, I have discovered this answer (thanks to my brother) and will now enlighten you:
See, hotdogs were originally intended to be finger food. However, when they were sold by the vendors on the street, they were far too hot to merely hold in one's hand. Therefore, people started putting the hotdogs in buns in order to be able to hold and eat the "delicious" meat concoction. Then, when the hotdogs were mass produced, each dog weighed 1.6 ounces. Therefore, manufactors logically decided to put 10 in a package so the consumer would be purchasing 1 pound of ground up stuff. However, bread had always been packaged 8 to a bag. Thus: the discrepancy.
Fascinating, isn't it?
