Off to Rehobeth Beach/ South Georgia tomorrow! *Does celebratory dance*. I'm so happy. And I'm not really sure why. Don't get me wrong, I love vacation...but not this much. Honestly, I'll be sitting in the car for 2 1/2 hours to go to the beach, which we probably won't go to. But, I'll get to see my brother which is wonderful considering I haven't seen him since May. Then I'll get back into the car, drive....ehhhhhhhh, 10 hours down to South Georgia where it is flat, sandy, covered in nothing but pine trees, cotton and tobacco fields, humid, gnatty/buggy/filled with the pestulance of the earth, and freaking hot to stay in my grandparents trailer and visit with the rest of my family. During this time, my 9 year old cousin Rachel who idolizes me (seriously, first there's God, then Hannah) so I won't have a spare moment to myself. Ever. Then we'll stay for a week, then drive back the 8-9 hours home and that's it.
Sounds like fun, doesn't it? BUT that's only because that's what it's like on the surface. While in Rehobeth, I'll get to *possibly* swim at the beach and/or check out hot men (but....since it IS Rehobeth they'll probably all be gay. Damn). On the drive down I'll be able to knock out King Lear, If On a Winter's Night a Traveler and my biography (it's so cool- it's about the guys who wrote the English Oxford Dictionary....but one of them was clinically insane and a murderer) for AP Lang. When I get down there, I'll bounce between my grandparent's trailer, my Aunt's house and my Uncle's house. We'll have a family gathering at the "Covered Bridge" where my Great Aunt and Uncle build a gorgeous log cabin right next to their gigantic lake. While there, we'll either have a pig roast, or an oyster roast with fresh vegtables from all of their gardens (they all farm in some sort of way) and DELICIOUS desserts from everyone's house. REAL food. Southern cooking- the only way to go. During that time, I'll play soccer with Chael and Rachel, swing with Rachel, play in the pond with Chael and Rachel, run around with Rachel, talk to Rachel, laugh with/at Rachel, visit for two minutes with everyone with Rachel pulling at my hand the entire time, etc. Most people would find this slightly annoying, but it is so cute. At night we'll share a bed and she just snuggles right up to me and tells me how happy she is that she's with me and how much she wants to be like me, etc. It's very flattering and gives me warm fuzzies. She's even started taking piano lessons just because I do. Yay!
But anyway, then we'll go to Saint Simon's Island and/or Savannah which is like an hour away from where they live. It is SO nice on St. Simon's. The water's always warm and there are rarely jellyfish. That and Ocean Isle are the two best beaches. We'll also go out at night and lay out in the corn field where my dad'll teach Chael and Rachel all about the constellations. Because they are so far out from any major city (Odam is comprised of 3 stoplights), you can see EVERY single star. It's amazing. Sometimes the deer come out and graze and you just spend the longest time just watching them.
Not the ideal trip for some people, but for me it is. It's going back home. Words can't describe how happy it makes me to hear that Southern drawl. Sure, it may make them sound "stupider" but it's MY dialect. I pick it back up was soon as I get back. It's what I grew up with. As backwards and stupid as they may seem, the Southerners truly are some of the most courteous people in the world. It's just the lifestyle. It truly is a different world. I'm so happy to be going back to it.
Talk to everyone in a week! Love ya all!
