Our neighbor got Morgann this for her birthday - Barbie Fairytopia Mermaidia: 5" Merfairies . Me, being the conservative and yes a bit uptight at times mom, am not too sure about how appropriate this is for a little girl. So, what do you guys think? Would you keep or take back? I don't have a receipt though. If you think I'm overreacting, thats ( Read more... )

I don't have a girl, but if I did, I'd probably keep them. They're cute, and I know anything mermaid is pretty hot with that age.

Madeline LOVES the Mermadia stuff, so yes, unfortunately, we have Elina, but not the Merfairies. She does have the movie though, so I'm sure if she saw them, she would ask(in fact, as I typed this, she saw them on the screen and started saying she wanted them cause "it's Mermaidia mama, that's what I want!"-LOL) I'm not overly impressed with how they look, she knows that they are pretend and that she is not going to dress like that.

I can understand where you coming from- their faces sort of look like Brat dolls, which IMO, aren't appropriate for kids on SO many levels (and I am pretty open minded!)

However, I think these are totally different, and cute.

Thanks!

I can see that too. Bratz are not allowed in our house, and in fact, every time Madeline sees them, she yells out "Uh-oh those are Bratz dolls and we do not like those! We do not have those in our house. They do not dress properly!" LOL

we don't allow Bratz either. They just look evil!

I personally don't mind these dolls since they are mermaids and are essentially wearing bathing suits. :) But I can see your hesitation with them, so don't feel bad about trying to return them/donating them!

I don't like fairies, mermaids, or Barbies, nor do I think any of those are appropriate imagery for a toddler (girl or boy). I don't like their bouffant hair, their eyes that take up half their face, their perfect makeup despite the fact they live underwater... call me a feminazi, but no way are those merfairies bunking with us!
