Stranger than Fiction thoughts

I’ve already seen the film twice before seeing it in class; once in theaters and once in my 11th grade creative writing course. When I saw it in theaters, I was expecting it to be a typical Will Ferrell comedy, so I was let down. Therefore, when I saw it in my creative writing class again, I just wrote it off in my head as a boring, useless movie and zoned out the majority of the time. But, it’s been 2 years since then. So, when Dr. AC told us we were going to be doing an assignment on the film, I did my best to actually pay attention and give it another chance. Surprisingly, doing so actually changed my view of the film. I noticed so many new little hints and connections the director threw in throughout the entire film (the importance of the watch, the connections between the bike riding boy, the bus driver and Harold Crick, etc.) which made me appreciate it much more. I also found myself chuckling at some of the dark and subtle humor, which I normally would have completely ignored.
I feel like I might have almost created (and fulfilled) a self fulfilling prophecy, because I drilled the idea into my mind that in order to write a successful paper over the film, I need to at least appreciate it, or even enjoy it. But to be honest, I don’t care. All I know is that it worked and that I am now ready to knock out this assignment. And, my new appreciation for the film will make it that much easier.
