All of the young actors have grown by leaps and bounds. There were no odd eyebrows from EW, no cringe-worthy "he was their best friend" moments from DR, and RG was so good in the final scene I could "see" Ron's wheels turning, wondering what's really up with Harry and Hermione. :) And, Tom Felton? Amazing performance. Truly.
The adults were amazing, even when they didn't have much to do. Alan Rickman rules.
Which brings me to the two things that bugged me -- no petrificus totalus on the tower. I can't see Harry doing nothing, no matter his promise to Dumbledore without it, but, on the other hand, it makes Snape's "betrayal" seem worse, because he fooled Harry with his "shhhh". Beautifully performed by both of them. The second was that Ron had no lines in the final scene. His "we'll be there, mate" was pretty much spoken by Hermione. We all know Kloves loves Hermione, and Ron wasn't as emasculated as usual, but still. :( Overall though, the total scene as shot provides lovely foreshadowing of the Silver Doe. This Ron has reason to wonder what's up with Harry and Hermione, they are so touchy/feely and he has no idea that they've bonded over unrequited Weasley love.
Also, how the heck will Harry know where to look for the diadem? I suppose they could have Voldemort think about where it's hidden, but I loved the foreshadowing in the book of the diadem. Oh well.

Could it have been done differently? Yes, but it didn't have to be. It worked. The kiss was tantalizing and the crying scene was wonderful. You see him really liking her and I liked that he and Hermione talked about it -- spikes the Harmonian guns, I'd say.
What did you think?

I'm still not sure what they're going to show H/G wise in DH1, or if there will be anything in general. But I'm hoping if there's a little, they won't really make it into a 'break up' scene but instead combine the Happy Birthday kiss with the I'm going away and not sure if or when what might happen kind of feel from the break up scene in HBP. *shrugs* Only time will tell.
Personally, I'm kinda glad they didn't do the break up scene because it still shows that there's hope for H/G. It gives people something to hold out for. Adds more drama to DH1, if they intend on including H/G in the movie.

Yeah. I guess I just wanted more. *g* I agree, though, that a breakup scene would've been a little ridiculous given the way the H/G played out.
I like your thoughts about DH1. It would also play down Ginny's reduction to "girlfriend who must be dumped/left behind for her own good" without the breakup, which can only be a good thing in my opinion. (I mean, we all know that Ginny is awesome and did awesome things at Hogwarts during DH, but it's easy for casual fans to miss it.)

I had the same thought. I was so proud of myself, that when I read HBP for the first time, I just knew it was going to be a Horcrux. I really hope they film the scene with the Fiendfyre.
