Summary: Vicki makes a decision and Mike has to come along for the ride.
Mike raised his arm above his head letting his forearm rest upon the pillow and half against the headboard as he watched Vicki slip her jeans over her black lace panties his eyes following the curve of her hip as it disappeared underneath her jeans. He wondered how often Henry’s eyes had done the same thing when he was with her or… if Henry had watched the arch of Mike’s own hips disappear. Sighing heavily he lowered his forearm a few inches half covering his eyes so his vision was shadowed by the light hoping it would help ward off the slight pressure building dead center between his eyes..
“What was that for?” Vicki questioned, her brows raised beneath her glasses, her fingers slowly buttoning the front of her blouse, enclosing the soft mounds of her breasts.
“What?” Mike sighed again looking at her quizzically from under his arm.
“That…that.” Vicki placed her hands on her hip. “That sigh?”
“Oh…” Mike lowered his arm, pulling himself to sitting position on the bed. “Nothing.”
Vicki’s mouth tightened at the corners. “That sigh was not for nothing. What…?” Her brows puckered as she glanced down at the floor, first to the left, then to the right. “You don’t think it is a good idea…do you?”
Mike said nothing.
Vicki knelt down at the foot of the bed disappearing from his line of vision. Mike leaned forward slightly to see why she had suddenly disappeared from his view and just as suddenly she reappeared with a shoe in one hand and a sock in the other. He gave a small grin easing himself onto his side and resting his head on his elbow.
“I think it is and… when..” Vicki said her head popping back into view. “ Have I ever been wrong?” She flashed a sly smile at him.
Mike could give her a list of times where Victoria Nelson had jumped directly into the fire and her always being right track record was nothing more than pure luck and back up from -yours truly- but he opted for a nod instead. Still she needed to slow down on this one or at least he did, get his mind clear and his emotions back in check. Even as Vicki scurried around the room, gathering pieces of her clothing scattered here and there, the mind Mike wanted to clear kept wandering back to the fire he felt with Fitzroy. Nothing compared…not even…He shook his head slightly, squeezing his eyes closed, and against his better judgment, he began to speak with soft protest.
“I just don’t think Henry wants us to chase him. I think he made that pretty clear. ”
“Oh yes he does. Don’t let him fool you Mike. Henry is never completely clear.” Vicki retorted in a snap flopping herself on the edge of the bed, lifting her leg and sliding her toes into the sock rolled open in her hand, slowly she pulled it up over her heel, against her ankle then up a short length of her calf.
“And… have you forgotten that he has company? That, that…kid…what’s his name… with him.” Mike quickly rolled his eyes. “I am sure they are content. Besides…where the hell would we even begin?”
Vicki grinned to herself. Mm hm…Take Tony to spite me and make Mike jealous, quite the plan there Henry.
“That kid.” Vicki’s hands came down hard upon her thighs, the slap stinging the skin beneath her jeans “Tony - he has a name by the way… and Tony is exactly where we begin. So get up.” She ordered reaching over and slapping his bare hip beneath the sheet.
“Ow…” Mike moaned rubbing the sting. “Vick…I know you are hellfire positive this is what you should do but…”
“Yes Mike I am.” she huffed pulling her shoe on. “And….anyway… I have made up my mind.”
“Well…That seals it then.” Mike grumbled. “You have made up your mind. There will be no reasoning, no arguing, no debating, the jury is out, Vicki Nelson has made up her mind.” Mike tossed the sheet back, throwing his bare legs over the side of the mattress.
“Glad that you are seeing things my way. Wise ass.” Vicki said her mouth spreading into a victorious grin as her eyes, once again, followed the lines of Mike’s body as he rose from the bed. Beginning at the muscular curves of his back, down his tight perfectly molded ass, along the lean muscles of his thighs.- and she couldn’t help but wonder if Henry had done the exact same thing. Even though she felt a tinge of jealousy at the thought that Henry may have shared this pleasure of drinking in Mike’s physique, she really couldn’t blame him, not in the least, Mike was something, not only good looking but intelligent, trustworthy, loving, loyal…
“Vick.” Mike began sliding his boxers up onto his hips. “And … if we find him. What then?”
“What then…?” she repeated - and sometimes Mike just asked her too many damn questions. “I don’t know…” Vicki shrugged. “I’m going on my gut here.”
“Hm… gut instinct, eh?.” Mike nodded.
“I don’t know Mike…I guess I will drag his preternatural ass back here.”
Mike gave a half hearted chuckle shaking his head. “That may be easier said then done.”
Vicki sighed . “Like I said - I’ll start with Tony. He will be easier to get a lead on. If I know Tony like I do…he will not be able to stay put - he will begin to wander while Henry is down for the count during the day. I will head to the office and get Coreen on it. I am sure she can sniff out something on that computer. Her and that machine get along so freakin’ well anyway. See if any plane tickets or anything …”
Mike felt a surge of frustration shoot through him. What good would it do either of them to search Henry out as if he were some runaway child? And now, in all this time, she makes a commitment, a commitment to finding Fitzroy. All though he so wanted his late nights back with Henry, something about it just pissed him off.
“Vick.” Mike said sternly “Don’t you think that Fitzroy is smart enough not to leave a trail, of any kind?. Fitzroy making himself scarce out there - hell that is easy for him. I mean come on Vicki, he has been doing it for over 400 some odd years. I think that it may be best for all of us if we just…”
“Just what Mike?” Vicki raised her voice sharply her face crinkling into anger. “ Forget him? I can’t do that Mike and frankly, even though you may want to…I don’t see how you can either, especially now!”
Forget Henry? There was a time he would have gladly done that, actually jumped for joy and clicked his heels twice but now - forgetting Henry was the last thing he wanted to do and there was no denying it, even after laying with Vicki - what he wanted, what he needed, was to be in Fitzroy’s arms reveling in the sensation of Henry’s auburn waves against his bare chest.
“What a fucking mess this is.” He grumbled pulling his shirt over his head. “ For Christ sakes Vicki that is not what I am saying and you know it. What I am saying is that it might be better if we just give Henry and us, you and I, some…time…you know?”
“Time?” Vicki shot at him her eyes narrowing into slivers. “Time? In case you haven’t noticed Celluci - you and I are on the invisible time clock here…”
Mike sighed rolling his eyes his voice somber and small. “ Yeah… Just s slow down and think about it.”
“I can’t stop and think about it. What is the point of over thinking it? ” Vicki answered quickly. “ Come on Celluci….don’t you believe some things are just meant to be?”
Mike held his hands up in defeat, shaking his head
“I don’t know … I …. don’t know what is meant to be. Honestly, Vick, ever since Fitzroy came into our lives every single second has been…a whirlwind of things, just too damn intense and on the edge… and… I don’t know if I can trust what I am feeling or even understand what I am feeling. And…we… well…” Mike gave a small irritated laugh. “We - that means you and I - just complicated things more.” Mike’s eyes locked to hers.
“Oh man Celluci - when did you get so touchy feely?” She quipped softly.
“Since you and since…oh the hell with it.” Mike let his voice fall away.
Vicki sighed. She wanted to be patient with him but her patience was waning. She wanted to get on this, she needed to before Henry did disappear in that vampire fashion of his. Time was ticking. Yeah it was a mess and at the moment she could feel Mike pulling back and that was not good. Selfish as it was and knowing he needed the space and the time and jumping in the sack with him for what reason - old times sake- was probably not one of her best ideas but thinking had nothing to do with it. When the heat rose in her body thinking was the last thing on her mind.
“Mike, we have all agreed, the three of us hands down, this is a complicated mess. Hell, it’s not like there is someone we can go to, someone we can consult unless we want to be hauled away to the funny farm. I mean - we have been together throughout this Mike, through demons, werewolves, mummies. I mean come on -how hard can the rest of it be? “ She flashed him a quick wink from behind her glasses her voice hardening again. “Now get dressed. We can figure this out as we go - like we have been and…hey that is normal the normal part of all this isn‘t it? Figure it out as we go...”
Mike turned from her falling silent. Figure it out as we go? How?
“Don’t bail one me now Mike. ” Vicki semi-pleaded hoping to keep a firm edge on her voice.
Mike’s silence lingered in the room, the clock ticking loudly in the corner as the knot in Vicki’s stomach began to tighten. Damn she was the selfish one in all this. All she had to do was pick one over the other. One over the other. Shit who made that rule anyway? She wanted them both. Hell she had them both. How could she be such a bitch? Well…I’ll just have to figure that out along the way too. She studied the lines of Mikes face, the curl that always felt across his right eye. Without thinking she moved swiftly to him and brushed it back from his forehead the way she always did. She couldn’t help it. She held his blue eyes to hers silently pleading. Finally Mike shifted on his feet breaking the gaze.
“I have to take a shower.” he said, shattering the silence and allowing Vicki to breathe again, his hand running quickly through his tousled curls.
“Now?”
“It’s morning. Henry’s not going anywhere. Shit Vick, you know that. So that gives me plenty of time to take a shower … care to join me? For old times sake?”
It was as if he read her mind and although the thought of water droplets and soap suds running down the lean muscles of Mikes chest and back, trailing over his taut buttocks, and down his thighs and…Oh damn the offer was tempting and Mike was right Henry would be out for the day….she bit her lip at the idea of the pleasure she could have with Mike but…It was time to get those lustful emotions under control.
“I should get Coreen going on this. See if she can cough anything up on that that computer…”
Mike smile was soft, his eyes warm. ‘Yeah…okay Vick. I’ll be around as soon as I make a quick stop at the station. I do have to work you know or at least make an appearance.” Mike kissed her quick on the cheek, his thoughts swimming, his worries growing, his longing burning. Still even though he had his reservations, even though his body ached for Fitzroy’s touch, he would help her. He could not deny her anymore than he could deny…Henry. “Maybe some things are just meant to be…whatever that may be?’ He questioned under his breath as he made his way to the bathroom.”
Vicki smiled but the worries were growing inside her as well. Could it be possible that Henry did the right thing, leaving these two together and her going to find him was just…
She blocked the thought from her mind moving toward the door.
“Victoria Nelson … What are you doing?” she asked herself as she left Mike’s and headed for the office.
