memories and music

I started sorting through my CDs this morning. Lenore had stayed the night, since she goes off to Stanford next week and wanted to hang out one last time. I have been poor company, but I hope I've made up for being a bit out of sorts by making piles of delicious food. Anyway, she reacted to the piles of CDs on the living room floor and the fact that we own a large CD player/stereo just now with bemusement... it was too quaint that I wasn't just playing the music out of my computer. (All I could think was, "but it sounds crappy in a ROOM using the computer"). She asked me what kind of music I liked, and whether my tastes were conventional or not. I didn't know how to respond to that. I like music that doesn't agitate me to an extreme degree, that sounds good, that moves me emotionally, or that elicits a memory. I like music to be interesting.

I put in the Juliet Letters.

To say it's a great album is an understatement. It's one of the first that Michael lent me when I asked me to introduce me to some good music at the beginning of college. Sure, Elvis Costello's voice is an acquired taste, and it's not that everything he's written is GREAT, but I think he's always interesting.

I haven't sat back and organized my music in a while, it's good to listen again.
