Well, kitten number 1 is now at his new home. Linda found a home for the black cat - his new mommy named him Bagheera, after the panther in the Jungle Books; he already comes to his name, and his mommy's family is showering them with gifts, including an automatic litter box. Dang, those are expensive! I have no worries for him, he will be pampered and spoiled like all cats should be.
This afternoon, a coworker will be picking up the gray and white cat, already named Maynard ("That's good stuff, Maynard!"), and then I will deliver the orange kitten to my friend Robin, Mother to all wayward cats, who already has about 6 (they have acreage, some are outdoor, some indoor), but wanted the orange to "complete the set". :) She'll wait to name her until some personality trait makes itself obvious.
It is kinda sad - I have the last two confined so I can get to them when I need to, and mom Dapple is making unhappy-mom sounds. It's heartbreaking, but I know I'm doing the best possible thing for all involved. We don't need more unwanted cats living on the streets. And next week, I'll get Dapple fixed - the local Humane Society has grant money for fixing feral cats, so all I have to do is take her in, and keep her confined while she recovers. We've already gotten Bashful fixed - he was only confined overnight, which is fine for the easier-to-fix males. He still comes around, getting fed and sleeping on the porch, so he's going to be fine. Still not pet-able, but fine. I don't know if we'll ever be able to turn Dapple into a house cat, but I think she'll be okay as a porch-cat. I wish I spoke cat-language, so I could explain it all to her, that her kittens will have safe, happy homes, and she won't have to undergo the risks of being pregnant on the streets again.
