After hours (and I mean hours) of sitting alone with my thoughts, I really don't have much to show for it. My hotel room has a massive window, which gives me the benefit and disservice of a bright, gorgeous view. At any time of day or night, there are thousands of things going on; people walking through the park, car horns crashing, the massive CITGO light blinking, or simple street lights that never turn off. There is something I really dig about the way street lamps look through the trees. Not sure why.

Anyway, I watched Rent today. It was about as weaksauce as I'd predicted. Even I have to call that movie a downer, despite its sing-songy tone and the fact that it is oh-so-bohemian-it-hurts. The character of Roger (cleverly rhymed with 'Father') looked like Bon Jovi after a bad dose of smack--come to think of it, his singing sounded that way too. I appreciate the "Bohemian New York At Our Finger Tips" vibe of climbing across fire escapes and going from building to building, but, honestly, this is just a big celebration of something I'm never going to be apart of. I sound damn near a conservative here, but I can gleen a tiny bit of understanding from any good movie, no matter how similar (American Beauty) or different (Trainspotting) from my actual life they may be. This, despite it's intense humanism and serious core, fell into the awkward spot between Broadway Realism and suspension of disbelief. The performances weren't too bad, but I didn't really intensely feel for any of the characters, I mean, we don't want any of them to succumb, but apart from that they're just two-dimensional singing and dancing Urban Barbies. Musicals are not getting better, let me just put it that way. I give it a 6/10.

On a lighter note, here are some key tunes to download if you're in a particularly 'Ruffallo' mood. Which I know ya are. Because I haven't seen any of you in so very long:

Age of Consent - New Order
Juliette - Crooked Fingers
Phantom of the Opera Theme Song - Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Leaving Town - Dexter Freebish
Johnny Yen - James
A Design for Life - Manic Street Preachers
Gone Are the Days - The Magic Numbers
No Cities Left - The Dears

There isn't a song on that list I don't EXPRESSLY recommend. EXPRESSLY.
