Arashi reprised their roles from their first movie
Pikanchi: Life Is Hard Dakedo (But) Happy on the sequel entitled,
Pikanchi Double: Life Is Hard Dakara (Thus) Happy. This movie was released on 2004, but the story picked up from three years ago. This was directed by the same director of the first Pikanchi, Yukihimo Tsutsumi.
The story revolved around five friends, namely Takuma played by
Ninomiya Kazunari, Shun played by
Aiba Masaki, Haru played by
Ohno Satoshi, Chu played by
Sakurai Sho, and Bon played by
Matsumoto Jun.
Three years after Takuma left Yashio to go to America to pursue his dreams, he suddenly came back to Yashio with a totally strange outfit. He went back to Yashio to take care of some sort of business, or to pursue his dream as a singer of a band. A talent manager scouted him to sign under his agency.
Haru met Takuma while he was on his way to a community fun event. He became more awkward than he was before, and he looked like he had epilepsy or abnormality. He was still working at the supermarket, but he admitted that he was still not good in dealing with people. Also, after three years, he was still together with Yuka's mother. He looked like he already lived in her house. Anyway, her husband sent her a letter to tell her that he already found a blond girl and told her not to find him anymore.
Haru was a mascot on that fun event, but made as a laughing stock. Takuma followed him inside the building. Shun's father, who was the MC of that event, noticed Takuma and recognized him as a friend of Shun. He told the cameraman to focus the camera on Takuma. The whole community, including Shun, Chu, and Bon, who were on their respective jobs, saw Takuma on TV and knew right there and then that he had finally appeared after three years.
Shun became a teacher of a crocheting class, after failing two consecutive times in Aogaku's entrance exams. He actually enrolled at the crocheting class, because the name of the school sounded like Aogaku, or so he thought. Nevertheless, he discovered himself there and finally recovered from the depression due to his failures. He became more passionate and diligent on his new found obsession, and eventually became a teacher of the class. He met Takuma by pretending to be a flying squirrel and flew towards him. What an idiot.
Among the members, Chu was the one who changed the most. From a gang leader, he became a responsible husband and father. Even his looks and the way he dressed up changed. He was still, however, a hard smoker. When he met Takuma, he showed him the pictures of his baby boy and wife and told Takuma about his love story. His wife was also a former gang leader of a group of delinquent girls. When they first met, they instantly clashed. They fought about who would remain superior as a gang. Whoever would lose on the fight would be disbanded. However, Chu did not fight back because he had seen her as a girl and always thought of her as beautiful. His words touched her heart, because she probably hadn't thought someone would tell her that. They fell in love with each other, then they started to live together. She got pregnant, but true to his honor, he asked her to marry him. Months later, they had a baby boy. And for him to support his family, he resigned as a gang leader and found a job as a salesman, in which he would excel later on.
Bon left Yashio to pursue his dreams as a cook. He was an apprentice chef for a Japanese restaurant. However, he always failed in his tests, because the master chef could taste his true intention in his cooking; he didn't really wanted to please other people, but only to please himself.
After Takuma left Yashio, the other members tried their best to keep the apartment he used to live. Whenever there were new lessees, they would find ways to scare them away, so that the apartment would always be vacant until he would come again. Now, the apartment building had been threatened with a demolition, because some rich developers wanted the place to be a high rise building. The community protested and along with the other members, they rallied against the developers who would demolish their apartments.
