just a thought... people should get guitar/skiing/snowboarding/drumming/whatever lessons only from other slightly more skilled beginners... that way you understand the pure basics and dont get too frustrated but your creative energy isnt compromised. unless you want to just play someone else's music your whole life... then just let someone walk you through it... but if you get dependant on someone else you're only going to learn what they know and its gonna get harder and harder to do your own unique thing.

A guitarrist who's only been playing a couple of years could easily show jimi hendrix or kirk hammet (sp?) something they can't play. thats because guitar... just like snowboarding/drumming/skiing/whatever hasn't reached its cap yet so if you make up something new and original... you can smoke the best of the best right away... skill level on guitar isn't stuck on speed or dexterity. having a 'professional' teacher just keeps you in the narrow 'wevedonethisbeforeandweknowitworks' area. anyways this entry is pretty much just for any of the hundreds of thousands of people in the US who are starting to learn how to play guitar, maybe a couple of them will read this. I was just thinking and i thought this might help a few people.
