Usually I can ignore this kind of crap, but not this time.
Read this and you'll understand. On his radio show last week, he said:
"In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out,"
"What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them, 'Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, you idiot.'"
Fuck you, Savage. Fuck. You.
Kevin doesn't have autism - he has central nervous system dysfunction and sensory integration dysfunction, which have some overlapping symptoms. He was non-verbal during his first few years (speaking and understanding). As he couldn't use verbal language, he was "wired" to react physically to situations. Now that he has language, and we've worked HARD for many years, he's much better, but it has been a long struggle. And we're still working hard.
I've taught children with autism. I know children with autism. As with most conditions, there are degrees of severity. That does not mean that an autistic child with milder symptoms can just 'straighten up' and stop 'acting like a putz.'
Perhaps I'm being too harsh. Perhaps I shouldn't react so angrily. Perhaps Mr. Savage just....needs help.
