most american day of my life

Jan 21, 2009 21:03

woke up, cooked crepes (french i know). biked down to the mall w zach and a big american flag attached to my bike. parked, walked through crowds, stopped south end of mall 1 block east of the washington monutment. people crawled on port-o-potties and trees to see the man speak. i leaned on people, tearing up while yo yo ma and pearl played. biden sworn in, then obama. everybody was friendly and shaking hands, happy.

left behind a train of worried people cause this girl passed out. got bikes, went north then east, ate in chinatown. they only had one huge table so they sat us with other people. through conversations we found out we were dining with mohawk chiefs and a brazilian traveler. he told me to go to some town in north brazil, starts with an m. down south san palo? anyway the chief women told us about current issues facing their tribe, their ed system, and why they were in town. then we biked by national cathedral, up huge hills singing the star spangled and yankee doodle.

went to georgetown, it was empty as hell. went down penn, got coffee a block up from the whitehouse, obama was on tv on the other side of penn ave, two blocks away. we saw colonial soldiers and heard marching bands so we biked trying to find them. watched the sun set over the national monument then chased the parade around town. we biked up a block, saw them pass, then went around to try and cut them off. we stood on guard rails behind msnbc trying to get on tv. saw a flag float, nasa float, and some state floats post-parade. went home for lasagna, 48 hrs the show, and hanging with nic and his girl. pretty cool day
