So I'm sitting here waiting for my red velvet cupcakes to finish cooking and it made me realize how trivialized christmas has become. Presents, food, decorating... all that stuff is great but that isn't what it is about. I'm not all super duper christian (go gays! premarital sex woo! tattoos fuck yeah!) but I do believe in Jesus and it makes me sad that people don't remember his birth. I mean, they do, but they remember a peaceful scene, animals standing around all calm and nice, Mary smiling lovingly to the perfect Baby Jesus, clean and fresh and not crying and wrapped up.

Yeah.
She was 14, scared as hell, alone with her husband (who I'm sure had never seen a birth, much less knew what to do), in a stinky barn with animals that wouldn't shut up I'm sure. It wasn't just Jesus that had a hard life. Mary had to have a painful, scary, disgusting birthing experience and then get to watch her son be killed on a cross. I'm not sure where I'm going with this besides the fact that we imagine his birth to be all pretty and special which makes Christmas have less meaning, in my opinion. Try to remember why we celebrate it this year if you believe in Jesus at all, even the tiniest bit. If not, I hope you like your presents.
