The Gossip

I wasn't sure that The Gossip were going to be all that fantastic. I had heard a few tracks and thought their style was cool but it's not stuff I'd listen to much. It was, however, one of the best gigs that I've been to for a while (and I've just seen The Long Blondes!). Even the support acts were interesting. The Violets were all over the place musically but the female lead singer was kind of interesting/amusing: like a tall thin version of Kelly Osborne, walking around the stage like she was wasted and looking a bit miserable. And then there was `Pre'. Four tall guys and then this tiny Asian female singer, wearing blue leggings and going absolutely berzerk on stage. And she had this squeaky voice when she spoke normally. There music was quite heavy and fast-paced and fantastic to watch. Beth comes on stage and tries to tease the crowd, saying that Manchester are always the best crowd. Although immediately not responsive, the Glasgow crowd soon rose to the challenge. Beth's voice is really quite powerful and soulful and it's difficult not to warm to her. She accidentally belched on stage, claiming that she had just had a Chinese buffet, then she took her girdle off in front of everyone. Oh and then she got down from the stage and started singing amongst us all. They eventually played `Standing in the Way of Control' and I can't remember the last time I saw a crowd enjoy a song so much. I suppose they are one of the bands of the moment, and that song is being played everywhere. They must be one of the best live bands at the moment.
