Yes, my yearly review is a week late. Because I have never been on time for anything in my life. That's how I roll. Deal with it. Format stolen from
crankyoldman because it was efficient and because I am lazy.
On to the things!
VIDEOGAMES
All of these were released before 2011, but again, I am always late to the party. Always. No exceptions. Anyways...
Games Completed in 2011:
Final Fantasy III (DS) A bit slow, but adorable and very much fun to play.
Final Fantasy IV (GBA) Because <3
Final Fantasy V (GBA) Easy contender for Most Addictive Game Ever.
Final Fantasy VI (GBA) (2nd playthrough) Easy contender for Favorite FF Game Ever.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP) (4th playthrough) Because I am so in love with this game that I feel the need to replay it at least once a year. Haters to the left.
Persona 3 Portable (PSP) (2nd playthrough) Female Protagonist's route this time; somehow even better than the original storyline. Me gusta. Mucho.
Tales of Symphonia (GC) (2nd playthrough) with
that_tall_guy. This game is way more fun, and way, way easier with two players.
Games Started in 2011 but not yet completed:
Persona 4 (PS2)
Viewtiful Joe (PS2)
Final Fantasy VIII (PS1) (3rd playthrough)
Final Fantasy XII (PS2) (2nd playthrough)
...all of which are on hold indefinitely until I am able to play my PS2 again. Whenever that is.
Pokemon Black (DS) Well I broke my DS, so...dunno if I'll ever finish this one. Oops.
Final Fantasy II (GBA) I just...I'm so bored with it. I don't know why. Give me some time, guys. I can do this.
BOOKS
This list is short. I am bad at reading, guys.
Invisible Monsters and Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk - Now tied for Favorite Palahniuk Book. Both made me laugh. Both made me cry. If you're gonna read anything by Chuck, read one of these two.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson - Okay, so I can see why this series is popular, but a combination of being extremely slow and vaguely exploitative left me with mixed feelings about this one. Full analysis of the trilogy due after I finish the sequels.
The Black Company, Shadows Linger, and The White Rose by Glen Cook - These three came bound in a single volume. Loved the first two, hated the second, but was hooked enough to order the next three. Only time will tell. Do not disappoint me again, Mr. Cook.
Death Note (Vol. 1 - 12) by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata - I now know what all the fuss is about, and I must say...son, I am approve.
Phantom by Susan Kay (4th readthrough) - Read this for the fourth time after
owlmoose asked for my five favorite books and I listed this among them. Turns out I don't like it as much as I used to. Maybe I really am grown up. YAY ME.
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson - I will never not completely love this book. Ever.
John Dies at the End by David Wong - Two words: meat monster.
Beowulf by Whoever The Fuck Wrote Beowulf - It's Beowulf, guys.
MOVIES
I watch a lot of movies; only those worth noting are mentioned here.
Sucker Punch - Whether you loved it or hated it, everyone has to admit that Emily Browning looks damn good in blonde pigtails.
Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - I cried and that's all you need to know.
Captain America: The First Avenger - Not gonna lie, I was totally expecting this to suck. It didn't.
Thor - Chris Hemsworth is on screen for 115 minutes. For a few of those minutes, he is shirtless. I'll be in my bunk.
Smiley Face - The stonerest stoner movie ever. Not exactly good, just very...relatable.
Horrible Bosses - Just go see it. Go. Now.
Tekkon Kinkreet - I like my anime like I like my everything else: trippy as hell.
Sherlock Holmes - ROBERT DOWNEY JR. JUDE LAW. NEED I SAY MORE?
Sherlock Holmes: A game of Shadows - asdfakg;hasldgha;sdlkjf;aldgjha;dslkgja;sdf. That is all.
Serenity - See Firefly entry below
TV SHOWS
I don't usually watch much television, which might explain why my recent exposure to the following shows was such an awesome experience.
Sherlock - a.k.a. The Show Where the Slashfic Writes Itself. That Season 1 only had three episodes is a fucking crime against humanity.
Top Gear (UK) - This is entirely
that_tall_guy's fault. I want to give a high-five to every single member of the BBC's film and editing crews. And possibly make out with Richard Hammond. Just sayin'.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - The "reasons i'm going to hell" tag has never been more appropriate here. I regret nothing. See you in the fire and brimstone, guys.
Firefly - THIS IS HOW FAR OUT OF THE LOOP I AM, GUYS. Yes, 2011 marked my first viewing of Firefly, and JESUS H. CHRIST. YOU GUYS. THIS SHOW. HOW DID THIS GET CANCELED? THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT? ASDFASGSDFASDA SO MANY FEELINGS.
Arrested Development See above capslock.
Overall, 2011 was a pretty sweet year in terms of entertainment. I have high hopes for 2012: finished two books already, in the midst of a third, have twelve more on the way, and am currently balls-deep in Vagrant Story and Pokemon Emerald. There will be no shortage of funtimes this year. My to-do list is long. My caffeine reserves are stocked.
Bring it.
