Vacation/conference so far

Hawaii is beautiful.

But the conference presentations are boring. Its basically targeted at structural engineers. Anytime they start to talk about the modeling and numerical analysis behind the project, they skip over it. So, I spend most of the time during the talks texting people and doddling ideas for my future webcomic.

Otherwise the conference is great. It made me realize I REALLY want to stay in academia. I guess I'm one of those nerds that will just never leave college :/ They talked about how to get fellowships and all that jazz. So when I apply to grad school, I'll be applying for several other things.

They also had a poster competition. I, of course, went straight for the stanford posters. Someone did a poster on the effects of random fields on earthquake simulations. It was fairly interesting. And yes, he was from Stanford, and quite attractive at that. I tried to talk to him about it, but that seemed to be everyone's great idea.

I met a VERY hot spanish man with a British accent. Turns out he went to undergrad at Oxford, where he learned british english. And, he did an internship at Berkeley. Sounds like my kind of man, except that he goes to University of Miami.

This morning, I went surfing for the first time. It was lovely, except the part where I think I got stung by a jellyfish. O, and the part where I finally stood up, and then wiped out on a rock. Yeah, I'm gonna look GOOD at the conference today!

My dad and Willard are too funny. Imagine rob and big, but hawaiian style. They are too funny

I love Hawaii, I just wish this trip was less business and more relaxation.
