So, I did have a pretty strong laugh today.
I didn't want to call and tell my mom about Minnie, so I had Russell do it.
He left one message on the machine asking my mom to call him really soon or he would try to call back again later. Then he left another one saying "Lelia is fine, it's just about Minnie" etc etc because the first one was vague and probably would have worried my mother.
Well, then he finally gets a hold of my mother. Apparently, his cell phone had cut out so the message on the machine wasn't...whole, shall we say. So, Russell eventually gets a hold of my mom and asks if she is at home or not (I wanted him to wait till she was) and she said that she wasn't but to tell her any way. So Russell says, "Well, we took her to the doctor, and they diagnosed her with chronic kidney failure."
"What? What does that mean?"
"Well, it means her kidneys are too small to do their job."
"What are they going to do?"
"Well, the doctor recommended putting her down."
"What does that mean?"
"Well, put her to sleep. Euthanize."
"What? Isn't there anything they can do?"
"Well, they said at her age there's really not much we can do because the kidneys are at more than 80% failure."
"Are you talking about the cat or the dog?"
"No, Minnie."
"*laughs* I thought you were talking about Mxyz."
----I would like to insert here that that was definitely a lie. She was so embarrassed that she thought I was going to be put down that she pretended it was all confusion about whether it was Mxyz or Minnie. Although, she started to question her assumption that it was me by the fact that Russell wasn't crying and the fact that he was talking about putting "me" to sleep. My mom nearly collapsed into a faint and was barely able to walk over to my dad.
Buuuut we all had a good laugh about it afterwards, and my dad asked me if I were a goner heh. On Russell's end, the strange part was that my mom was more upset than he thought she was going to be, and then after she realized he was talking about Minnie not "Mxyz" she was way too happy. Plus, she sounded really confused at the beginning.
After my mom told me about the story, she was like, "I'm sorry, Lelia, but I was so happy that my child wasn't dying." Definitely funny in retrospect :) A very TV-show moment.
