Last night, Maile and I went over to the home of a group of boys we often watch while their parents go out of town. We do adore these kids, and this is the second Christmas we've gotten them presents. Last year, we were able to score some sets of STAR WARS action figures for them. Seeing as how they are STAR WARS fiends, the gifts went over well.
This year, we were both on the look-out for something that would just blow them away, but not blow-out our gift budget. So, about three weeks ago we find two items that we KNOW will bring smiles to their faces. And last night, we were able to give them the gifts.
We show up with the two boxes festively wrapped and ready to be torn into. One large box, and the other a medium size box. The three youngest look at the presents as we walk in, instantly trying to figure out what's inside. (SIDE NOTE: We got the oldest a gift certificate, as he is a senior in high school).
After saying our hellos, we sit down and we let them open the medium size box first:
What could it be?! Now I knew they had gotten this gift earlier that year (after we had purchased it), but c'mon, how cool is it to have two TIE-Fighters to track down the ships of the Rebellion?
Then they set their sights on the larger box. As they begin to open it, I know they were secretly wishing it to be what it actually was, but no way would we get THAT for them...
... or would we? OH YES WE WOULD!
As the contents came into view, it was a chorus of...
"NO WAY! NO WAY! NO WAY!"
"WHOA, YES! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!"
"YOU GUYS ARE SO AWESOME!"
I was told later by their Dad that when they spoke of money amounts, they would often say, "You could buy like three Millenium Falcons with that much money!"
It was their Christmas Holy Grail, and I'm so glad Maile and I were able to give it to them. And I must say, it's alot cooler then the vintage oringal Millenium Falcon I had back in the day.
