Disappointing

I'm extremely disappointed with the most recent episode of Supernatural, which I would have liked a whole lot better if

... it weren't so obviously a poor, dumbed down, microwave dinner version of Gaiman's "American Gods". I mean, really -- Loki, Odin, Baldur, Kali and Ganesh? Really? There were no other gods, you had to steal exactly the ones the novel is about? Plus the flashy Wikipedia notes in case viewers were too dumb to actually clue in on to which god was which? I like cultural references in my daily TV. I love intertextuality. What I do not love is someone taking a solid author's well-fleshed, carefully developed ideas and downsizing them to fit a 45 minutes slot in a completely different universe just because the season is ending and the writers are at the end of their wits.

What's most dissapointing is how stupidly butchered the whole concept of Other Gods is -- all they do is serve as a convenient plastic tray to serve some easily-predicted Deus Ex-y solution to the Big Issue of the Season. Really, someone could have been a liiitle more imaginative in writing the episode to tell Frodo to get the Four Rings and trap Satan in Mordor. Or, you know. Whatever.

Well, at least Baldur was cute...

Plus, I'm having the Third Cat Syndrome, where the cats' combined ability to litter slowly exceeds my ability to clean litterboxes. Fortunately, the Third Cat should go to a good home after she gets a clean bill of health this Sunday ::crosses fingers::
