Not dead (yet)

Well, it's been ages since I last updated this journal and all I can say is that I'm sorry, just in case anyone was actually interested in reading my random ramblings. As the wonderful emeryboard remarked, the longer you have been away, the harder it is to get back, so I don't quite know where to start with everything that has and some stuff that hasn't happened ;-) As this is my fannish journal, I won't bore you with too many rl details, if you want the dope on that, you'll have to check out my other journal.

  • Due to rl happenings, I haven't had much time for fannish endeavours so far in 2010 and probably won't get around to much until mid-October when the academic year wraps up. I haven't been really inspired to write any fic since the fiasco that was nanowrimo 2009, where I foolishly attempted to write an M7 fanfic and discovered that stories set in the past are very, very hard to write when you have no clue about anything history related. (I did always have A's in history, but we mostly covered stuff that had happened here in Europe and hardly any US history). I had started some minor fics since, but none that ever came close to being finished. With any luck and a good deal of inspiration, that is about to change is I am making good progress on a ST: TOS fic. Yeah, I'm back in the Trek fandom for the first time in many years. The last time was sometime in the 90ties, back in the era of modems and video tapes. Anyhow, I'm close to finishing this fic as it's not on overly long one by my standards, even though I should be doing other things, preferably uni related-ones.
  • My computer clock is on the frizz. It's not stopped or anything, but instead seems caught in a time loop of some sort. It always repeats the same sixty minutes over and over. I can set it and it will run correctly for one hour and then jump back. I know it sounds totally ridiculous, but it's been going on for a week and it's not funny anymore. I suspect it might have to do with the battery, since it went on the frizz around the same time. I think a call to Dell is in order. If only I weren't such a phonephobic, I would have called days ago. I give myself another week before I break down and call support ;-) At least I still have warranty on my dear Leland V.
  • My journey through various fandoms continues. When I first got into fandom around 15 years ago, I used to spend my time almost exclusively in one fandom, for long periods at a time before moving on. Nothing like today, when I seem to rotate through fandoms pretty quickly. There are some that I seem to come back again and again over the years (like Stargate and Star Trek), but overall, I tend to move on fairly fast. Not sure if that is a bad thing, but it kind of makes it hard to finish a fic.
  • I need new icons and a change of layout wouldn't be amiss either. I fear however that neither of those will happen before this fall for reasons mentioned above.
  • Can't remember where I put the software needed to transfer data from my alphasmart to the laptop. With the heatwave finally over, I would love to go and sit some place nice and write. It's probably the universe telling me that my room needs some serious cleaning, but I feel exhausted just thinking about it, so it's either use the laptop or don't write at all. I would take the laptop outside or at least downstairs, but with the battery on the frizz (also see above), that isn't exactly possible.
