Just got a call from my sister. "Hey Frankie, what do you need to make stir fry? Because Jasmine wants to have that for supper next time you babysit." Awesome. Maybe I am having some positive effect. You could have your neice help you cook and try out a few recipes. Indian food is generally not hard to make, especially dals. Spices aren't that expensive either, if you get them from ethnic markets or co-ops, and that's the main obstacle ingredient wise. Look for recipes by Madhur Jaffrey, she's a really good cook book writer.

It's not really Thai in any authentic sense. I just call it that because the bottle says "Thai peanut sauce ( ... )

Not for any reason that makes any sense. One night when we were kids, we just started calling each other names we thought were silly. After a while we settled on her being Mike and me being Frank. Inexplicably, it stuck for probably 20 years now. I seem to have some sort of talent for coming up with sticky nicknames - pretty useless as far as talents go.
