Oh, if you want it meta, that's another story. :)
Gildy is morbidly fascinating, in that Snape can't understand why he (or Rus) hasn't killed him yet. He's a flake and occasionally useful and immensely irritating all the time, and badly needs to learn about personal space and when it's time to stop bluffing, and it's somehow impossible not to reluctantly like the pushy, insincere little brat. When I say 'like,' that's not entirely accurate. But he keeps on finding himself not really squishing him--usually. Gildy has been known to help him out with that. ;)
