Alexander Rookwood Dies aged 93

Alexander Octavius Rookwood, born April 14th, 1904, died at his home in Suffolk on September 18th, 1997. He is survived by one son.

A prominent member of the Wizengamot, Mr Rookwood passed away peacefully in his sleep in the family home at Stenningfield, Suffolk, aged ninety-three. The family was an old and influential one in the area, having held the manor of Stenningfield since Edward I, and had for generations been involved in the politics of the wizarding world.

Rookwood was educated at Hogwarts, where he was sorted into Ravenclaw. In Florence he learnt Italian well enough to work in the Ministry's embassy there, and serve as chairman of the Britain-Italian Society (1925-29). In 1928, after the devastating floods in Italy, he was extremely active in raising funds for its victims, as chairman of the Italian People's Flood Appeal.

Mr Rookwood became involved in politics at a relatively young age, following in the footsteps of his own father, also Alexander, and by the age of thirty-five was well-respected by his peers and already championing the cause of the arts, first in his diplomatic position ... then, on his return in 1930...
