May 15, 2007 22:47

Name: Hermione Granger
Date: July 7, 1997
Format: Pensieve Memory
Relevence: Hermione stopped believing in 'worst' during her second year at Hogwarts. We may deduce, however, that this memory was subjectively pretty dire from it's excellent quality; she seems to have been determined to not only file it but get it out of her head as completely as ( Read more... )

All work and no play...

Too late. Was one already.

*returns the rude gesture*

You still are, Granger.

(was being good-humored before, but is irked now, since he wasn't)
That went without saying, Malfoy. As in, 'I implied it, so you didn't need to say it.' As in, 'saying it was entirely without class.'

You stuck your tongue out at me. I suppose you're the Emily Post of the wizarding world?

I'm not the one who's gone prancing about claiming to be above all the common people for the last six years and probably sixteen. Also, learn the difference between this
(flips off a nearby wall, meaning business)
and this,
(thumbs her nose at him in a lighthearted sort of way)
and you'll get on much better around here. Particularly with the Weasleys.

You're a fine one to talk about that. You've always thought yourself better than me. Especially academically. You're just as bad, turning everything into a competition. You enjoy showing off. It's just as much in your nature as it is in mine.

*folds his arms across his chest defiantly*

Who says I'm here to get on well with anyone? I know my presence around here's resented. You want to know the truth of things? Ask me.

Go get a refund from whoever told you they were teaching you Legilimency, Malfoy. I compete with myself.

(calmly)
Your presence around here is distrusted, as you must have expected. It won't be resented unless you go around making things unpleasant and difficult for people. Is that what you want to do? I'm asking.

I'm sure Severus would disagree with your assessment. He's made several remarks about your showing the class up over the years. But it's not arrogance, it's confidence, right?

Amusing for me, considering you play both. *G*

Harry trusts me. And really, his opinion is the only one that truly matters to me. I'm not here to stir trouble for anyone or cause dissention amongst the ranks. I'm here because I made a conscious choice to try and save my mother and father, and I couldn't very well do that dead.

(raises an eyebrow)
I expect Professor Snape has had more than a few things to say about Harry's 'arrogance' over the years, too, and yet, here you are, and you don't look too terribly concerned he's going to lead us all into hell on pure hubris without so much as a watering can.

Yes? I'm glad to hear it. I believe almost everything you said just then, Malfoy, oddly enough--and when you believe it all, maybe you'll figure out you're with people who have a common goal that doesn't include making Harry or anyone else miserable, and stop biting people's heads off when they're trying to be friendly.

Heh, yes... fortunately they're both quite happy to avoid each other, normally, although Sev sort of wants to rip into her about her tincture thing.

Well, I heard Hell's sorta nice this time of year, and I'm overdue for a holiday. You're welcome to join us. You could do with a bit of a tan, whitey.

*arches a pale brow*

What didn't you believe?

*sighs a bit*

Look Granger, perhaps you and I should try and get along for Harry's sake? He has enough to worry about without you and I at each other's throats. Once the war's over, of course, we can go back to bickering and talking shit behind the other's back.

Fine by me, monochrome, if you both promise to keep your trunks on.

(looks at him directly)
You don't act much like someone who only cares about one person's opinion, Malfoy. And that's not a bad thing. We'd all be a lot more worried about having you around if you did. But you've got to stop assuming the worst of us, or you'll never get the best.

(eyes narrow)
Like that. You were talking sense there for a minute until you decided to presume to know that I behave as badly as you just said you do. We do at least try not to be backbiters around here, Malfoy.

Well, I do plan on taking my swim trunks off at some point. Would it really hurt you to look?

*looks away*

All right, maybe I do care. A little. Laugh it up if you must.

*shakes his head*

I was kidding. Trying to be affable and lighten the mood. This hasn't exactly been sunshine and roses for me. You could try and make the transition somewhat easier on me. And who knows, I may even learn to like you after while.

*offers his hand in peace*

So what say you, Granger?

Do you honestly want me to answer that?

(shakes her head)
It's a good thing, Malfoy, really.

(raises an eyebrow)
Maybe I could, but nothing else is going to be easy on any of us, is it? Better to be up-front, and just try hard not to make it harder than necessary. Leave the coddling of us to the adults who think we should stay out of it, and the attacking of us to the enemy. We've a job to do, that's the main thing. Have you started on anything yet?

(tries, at least, to control an oh-dear-god look, and sighs)
Better, Malfoy. Truce, with an option for pax.
(clasps his forearm instead of shaking hands)

(giggles) Hermione's thinking (totally missing the irony) "Oh, for pity's sake, BOYS and their grand gestures! I suppose I'm lucky he's too finicky to want to seal it with a spit-shake, oh, but I know where that hand has been, nooooo..." XD
Yes, email's good. :)

Ah, is it that you prefer birds then? Because I really can't think of a reason why you wouldn't. And Weasley doesnt't count.

*glances back at her*

Why is it such a good thing to care? All caring does is rain disappointment and heartbreak.

*raises an eyebrow at her raising an eyebrow*

I've a few hush-hush assignments at present. Harry and I have been practising our dueling. And I've been studying a branch of magic that will hopefully assist in our finding these Horcruxes. And now what have you been doing to further the cause?

*watches her bypass his handshake with a forearm clasp*

Fine, a truce then. *feeling silly, almost wishing he could rescind his handshake*

I still owe you an email, darlin'. Draco thinks spit is yucky unless of course he's swapping it :P
