Lily Potter, Memory, 31st October 1981

May 15, 2007 21:47

Name: Lily Potter
Date: 31st October, 1981
Format: Memory
Relevance: Lily Potter's worst memory. As with her husband's memory of the same evening, Lily's memory was reconstructed after her death by an Unspeakable, using material extracted during a post-mortem and augmented using memories from her son, Harry.

I'll give you blood magic... )

I'm very sorry Lily.

*bites lip* Thank you.

I'm not, though. I mean, I wish things could have been different, but...it was worth it.

*swallows at her answer*
*doesn't answer except incline his head once, looking away for a brief moment*
*quietly*
How long did it take you to realise you'd died?

I...well, I knew straight away. I knew it was coming, you see. *bites lip* I knew he was going to kill me. Afterwards, it all just felt unreal. That took longer to get used to.

*nods*
There's often a difference between knowing and realising something, especially where death is concerned. I knew it, too, when I'd died, but it took a few hours for my mind to process it enough for me to be able to overcome the most basic restraints of life.

Did you... did you sit with Harry afterwards?

Mmm, I know what you mean. Actually, I still have moments when I forgot that I'm dead. *laughs* I think there's a part of me that doesn't quite believe it.

*sober* I watched him, but I couldn't get close. At first it was...it was sort of like seeing him through a telescope. *deep breath* Not so much fun.

We all have that at times, I suppose. Only to find that we can't manipulate matter in the realm of the living any longer.

*looks at her for a long moment* I can readily believe that. Did you go to see him frequently later during his life?

Which is a terrible shame if you ask me. The afterlife would be a lot more fun if we could shift things about a bit more.

*quietly* All the time.

Very true. At least for turning over book pages, if nothing else.

*equally quietly* I go to visit my nephews a lot, too. Although I dare say it's less hard for me to witness their growing up than it is for you to see Harry in his environment.

*small smile* Harry's had some good times with your family, though. I'm glad for that at least.

Sorry, am in the middle of my exams and hence continually dropping off and back onto the face of the earth. :/ -- And obviously too stupid to close html tags. -- And what is it with LJ tonight? This commment was empty a moment ago. *blinks*

*smiles back* Yes, he did rather. Molly can be very accommodating in a home-y sort of way, and that's what Harry was in need of, I suppose.
