I'm such a perv. I read that first line as "Bodies that seem to Arse again." *gigglesnort* This is BEAUTIFUL! God, did it take you forever? *adores*

*inclines her head*
Does it make a difference if the body is Muggle or Wizard?

It does. *quick nod* Wizards retain a slight magical charge after death, rather akin to static electricity, which makes the process more likely to be successful.

*cackle* Yes, you are a perv. This is why we love you. :p
Hee, it did. But it was such fun! ♥

*nods*
It does not surprise me that even their corpses are useless. How long can the Inferi survive? The process slows or stops decay?

*giggles* Guilty! *loves back*

*smirks and raises one shoulder*
Until now Inferi have only been used for short periods of time. The spellwork behind them is showy, but lacks practical application. It slows decay for a while, true - I believe it's even used, in an altered form, to aid in autopsies in some countries - but not long enough, which is why I am working on modifying it.

*eyebrows raise*
For autopsies? Interesting. I'd think they'd merely use a preservation charm, such as in animals saved for spellwork, but I suppose they are all variations then?
*smiles almost innocently*
For autopsies?

Preservation charms are useful for dissection, but they leave the structure of the thing preserved somewhat altered; flesh hardens, cell walls are artificially strengthened. The subject, or- creature, is whole and intact, but it is very much dead. Inferi are different. They approximate life. There is no rigor mortis, the body merely lies dormant.

*smirks at her smile*
The applications would be numerous.

*giggles* It's Gus' mad hair icon!

*goes silent to consider this for a moment*
Is it possible then to alter the spell to approximate death, putting the body into a dormant state for extended periods?

*nods*
I suppose they would. I've heard rumours of inferi owls being used for- less public messages. Have you received anything by one?

Certainly. But that's a preservation charm. *grins* After any period under one of those it's practically impossible to reverse. The challenge, as it were, is to keep the inferius useful for an indefinite period.

I have not. Though I can't say I allow owls in my lab at all if I can help it. It's hardly hygienic. *arches an eyebrow* Have you ever sent one?

You knew he had to have one! :DD

*responds to his grin with a genuine, beautiful smile*
Will you teach me that charm? You are very knowledgable and I'm afraid my education at Hogwarts isn't as- challenging in some areas.
*eyebrows raise*
And is this personal research or something the Ministry is investigating?

*returns the expression with a smooth arch of a delicate eyebrow*
Do I look like the type of girl to murder owls and animate them to send letters? At seventeen?

*loves*

*watches her smile blankly*
If you wish. It's unlikely you would ever need to use it, though, unless you're in the habit of dissecting things. Or drying flowers, actually, but I imagine you have better things to do than that.
*moment of rather smug silence, one corner of his lips twitching*
Naturally I couldn't comment. Though at the end of the day, there is only one reason to research anything: because one can. Because one desires more knowledge.
*raises one shoulder, posture a little less stiff*
Most research, Miss Black, remains purely theoretical.

*snorts*
One can never tell with girls, seventeen year olds especially.

*loves back*

*nods*
I do so wish. That and the other preservation charm to approximate death.
*inclines her head*
Naturally. And I desire more knowledge as you do so therefore I can't think of better things to do.

*quiet laugh*
Would you like to receive such an owl? From such a girl?

*hides a smirk by pursing his lips*
Very well, then. I will teach you a general preservation charm. It stengthens and reinforces the cellular structure of any biological matter quite effectively, and isn't to difficult to master, or unusual.
*sniffs and casts about for something to demonstrate on, before pulling a cut iris from its vase* *glances to her to make sure she's watching, and flicks his wand with a strict upwards motion at the flower*
Condius diuturnus. See how it dries? *tosses it to her carelessly* It's quite study, despite appearances.

I'm sure I would be honoured with any correspondence you chose to send me, Miss Black. Though as I said before, I'm not overly enamoured with owls.

Hee, let's pretend that latin isn't pretty much complete nonsense. >.>

*quiet laugh but she listens attentively then keeps a close eye on the motion of her wand*
*nods and catches the flower, turning it in her hand and pushing at the petals*
Condius diuturnus.
*glances the vase*
May I try then?

*smiles graciously at him*
What would you prefer then? A dove? Or it is all avians in general you do not like?

Fabulous! :D

*nods when her pronunciation is perfect*
*waves his hand absently*
Certainly. Perhaps you'll satisfy my curiosity as well, and tell me where your interests lie, if you too desire knowledge.

I prefer not to have animals flying about whereever they please. It's most inconvenient in a lab environment - and, for that matter, undesirable in a home environment too.
*smirks slowly* I imagine you've only a limited menagerie with which to deliver letters, though, so I dare say I wouldn't turn away an owl.

*plucks an iris from the vase*
My interests are quite broad, Mr Rookwood. Or were you asking about my interests in the preservation charm?
*pulls her wand and mirrors his gesture and spell precisely*

Ah, yes. I can understand your point.
*smiles at him*
But I do have rather unlimited finances should I need to acquire something less distasteful, though my owl is very well mannered.

corviform April 24 2007, 19:10:03 UTC
Either. *shrugs and watches her performing the spell with a neutral sort of attentiveness* Both.
*corrects her for the fun of it*
You need to move your wand more swiftly, though.

*small, thin smile*
I thought you might. I'm curious, though, as to why you might put yourself to such needless expense merely to write to me. I'm not a great writer of letters, Miss Black, and would make a rather dull pen pal. *arches an eyebrow pointedly*
