PRELIMINARY REPORT
Investigating Officer: Law Enforcement Wizard Dupleiss
Date: August 2nd 1981
Report: Responding to a floo from Jeremiah Higgerton, owner of The Red Ribbon Inn, Law Enforcement wizards visited Room 12 of the hotel. In the room, the bed was soaked with blood and there was a large quantity of blood splattering up all four walls. In the bath of en-suite, Law Enforcement wizards discovered a severed foot, three fingers and a lung - all since determined to belong to one Benjamin Fenwick.
There were several items of male clothing on the floor by the bed, presumed to also belong to Fenwick. In the robe pocket, Law Enforcement wizards found a small box from Messrs Hingle and Glot, containing a small sapphire locket. Engraved on the back were the words: To my beloved B.
According to a statement given by Higgerton (see attached St1A), a man matching Fenwick’s description booked into the room on July 30th. He was alone and no disturbance was reported. When Fenwick did not check out of the room the next morning, as he was due to, Higgerton opened the room and discovered the scene.
Eliza Dragonetti, a chambermaid (see attached St1B), claims to have seen a tall, dark-haired woman entering the room with Fenwick. However as she only saw the back of the woman she can give no further details.
A thorough search of the premises and surrounding area was made but no further remains of Fenwick have been found.

Dearest Dahlia,
Bella needs a favour. It's a silly little thing, silly. But I know they'll ask. Bella made a mess, dear one. Under her fingernails too. Pieces of it in her hair. Messy. And now they're going to want to know how it broke. Tell them Bella was with you? I hate to ask, but oh the noise if they know it was her. Bella trusts you, darling.
It smells here. I hate summer. I hate the smell of it. I hate the flies. Say I was with you, the night before last. I hate the flies, they chase the birds away.
Bella
