(wide eyes, obviously fighting an explosive sporfle)
Well. That's--creative.

*does not see anything remotely amusing in the situation*

That's one word for it.

(fights harder, with more but not complete success)

I wouldn't be at all surprised if she was trying to do you a favor. In a very, very long-term and round-about way, of course. Or if not you personally, than your future generations.

*sense of humour still AWOL*

What's that supposed to mean?

(palm-up)

The pureblood ideal is the separation of the magical world from the Muggle. Now that magic's shown up in you, you're magical, and your children are likely to be, as well. She's probably trying to teach you that the only way a witch can be fully herself is in ours, by exaggerating the restrictions of theirs.

I admit it's high-handed and not a goal you'd be expected to approve, but that doesn't mean it can't be from a ki--perhaps not kind, exactly. Benevolent. A well-meaning motive.

It's a very handsome turtle, btw. Severus would admire it, but she'd probably suspect him of wanting it for ingredients.

*quirks eyebrow* I wasn't aware you had such a charitable view of human nature. Or such a vivid imagination.

*grudging, almost smile* Next you'll be telling me that she wants to offer me lodgings at Malfoy Manor.

(back to being amused)
You were correctly unaware; my good opinion takes earning. So do think about it, won't you? My imagination is profound, but not fevered.

(crooks half a smile) I don't think I'd go that far. It'd be sulfur and saltpetre; I expect she'd prefer her house to remain intact.

I'm glad to hear it. I should hate to see you take to wild flights of fancy. I'm sure it wouldn't be good for your constitution.

*purses lips*

No, I don't suppose Narcissa will welcome me as a houseguest. I'm sure I'll bear up under the disappointment somehow.
