The saga continues

To Arterich: It's a desktop PC - custom-built - so I didn't think the other store-bought HP computers in the house would come with a seperate graphics card (I think they do but I doubt my sister would've been willing to pull hers out to test it).

So it failed to boot on that Sunday and got stuck in a loop. Finally ran checkdisk and corrected the booting problem. Bought the replacement card this week and it seems to be working. Haven't put it through the wringer yet - I think a 3-hour skirmish in Supreme Commander will be a good test...

But Firefox died for some insane reason. You click the icon, the hourglass shows up for half a second and then the computer shrugs and doesn't do anything. The Mozilla folder where my bookmarks were said to reside has mysteriously vanished into thin air. A search turned up nothing. An attempt to create a new folder with the same name in the same location yielded the message that the folder already existed (EXCEPT IT'S INVISIBLE!). Attempts to re-install Firefox failed. Sister is recommending re-installing Windows to fix anything that got corrupted during the booting issue.

I'm feeling strangely vulnerable and bereft without my adblock and bookmarks.

And my mouse's right button died. Between the snow, the computer, and work it's a wonder I haven't made it to cable news for having gone on a killing spree...

To Tenchi: I read mostly. A friend lent me his copy of His Dark Materials (The Golden Compass, etc.) and I've been slowly working my way through it but I'm not loving the characters...
