Dear family, friends and daycare parents,
After several attempts today, it has become crystal clear that I should no longer cook.
I feel that it is in the best interest of everyone involved that I take this drastic measure :)
Some people can rise from the depths of insanity that I have faced today, however, I am accepting defeat.
Let me explain....
Today I prepared a wonderful pan of Chocolate Puffed Wheat squares, twice. This is because the first pan was NOT so wonderful. Thankfully I tasted the creation, and found it sorely lacking. I knew it had been a LONG time since I last made this snack, but it seemed to taste MUCH better in previous years. So I went back to the recipe book.... only to realize that I completely forgot the SUGAR! UGH! So I scooped that pan into the garbage and made another batch. After burning my finger on the hot, sticky snack, I found out that this pan was MUCH better.
A little while later I began thinking about starting dinner. Then my friend showed up to drop off some hand-me-downs for Danae. I went out front to talk to her and say hi to her son. When I came back in the house, I heard a sizzling sound in the kitchen and the house was smokey. Darn! I forgot that I hadn't just THOUGHT about starting to prepare supper... I actually HAD started dinner. Ground beef in the fry pan! YIKES! It was burnt so badly to the pan that I had to throw the pan out once it cooled :S
I tried to salvage the top of the ground beef, then started cooking it in a different pan (my plan was to make a family favourite... Shepherd's Pie). Things were going MUCH better, and I started to season the meat. First I grabbed the salt and gave the meat a sprinkling. Then I grabbed the pepper, removed the lid and started to sprinkle. Only there was no shaker top on the container, AND it wasn't pepper!!! It was CINNAMON... and I had just dumped AT LEAST a half cup all over my ground beef and onion mixture!!! GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!
BUT, I was NOT going to be defeated by cinnamon! I HAD to do SOMETHING. I already had the potatoes boiling to make mashed potatoes, and I didn't have time to defrost more meat. Plus... I had already thrown out a FULL pan of crappy Puffed Wheat squares. I couldn't waste MORE food!
So, I grabbed a metal strainer and RINSED the meat, dumped it back into the pan (after washing the cinnamon covered pan) and continued on.
I would like to say that the cinnamon added a nice flavour, but it didn't :P
Although, my family DID eat it, without complaining.
Christian just told me that he was SAVING the left overs, because he is going to eat them.
So, perhaps I will attempt to cook again... tomorrow. Today, I am DONE!
Now, time for some ICE CREAM... hopefully I don't mess THAT up :P
