I had a very long day and was exhausted from our trip to Plimoth Plantation. When we got back from the field trip I still dragged myself up to the gym to work out.

So my energy was down, but the energy of the boys in my dorm was high. They were very rowdy during and after study hall. When I called lights out none of them moved from hanging out in eachother's rooms. I decided to employ a tactic I've seen used by a number of other experienced dorm parents: Being wicked pissed. off

I screamed at those kids and they all stopped and gave me a deer in the headlights look. Mr. Gray the ever-patient accomodating nice guy is mad?! Uh-oh! They scuttled in total silence right back to their rooms, shutting their doors, and turning off the lights. Yelling isn't my style, I prefer a more diplomatic approach but wow is that way efficient. When you're low on energy and in a bad mood, nothing beats it. I just wanted to go to bed, which I will shortly since they aren't even peeping.

Maybe Machiavelli was right.
