Sorry to be so tedious...

...but does anyone here know anything about getting a flat carpetted? I'm looking around for quotes and once again am left wondering how much is a reasonable amount to expect to pay, who to use and other horribly non-Pantera things.

Anyone had carpets fitted lately and want to tell me their thrilling tales?

Oh, my. You are becoming Suburban!

From memory, the cost of getting it fitted is pretty small compared to the cost of the carpet itself, even if you go for bargain-basement cheapo carpet. And pricing is deliberately confusing and baffling, with endless overlapping sales things which make getting a simple answer to "how much is this" very hard. They'll try to upsell you on everything; IME you can safely resist that apart from the bit about having decent underlay. A cheap carpet with moderate underlay is way better value than a moderate carpet with cheap underlay.

Good quality fitted carpets are something like £70 per meter squared.

There is a huge range of choice and price, it depends what quality you want, if you go for the £20 psqm mark be prepared that the fluff comes off flying etc. There are ones that are that price for heavy contract carpet tiles but they are for commercial use normally - the typical office flooring where they expect a huge area to tile. For at home it is I'm afraid a little pricier if you want something half decent.

Having said that, given the current market you might hit lucky.

Got heavy duty carpet installed recently, ready for renting out house. Carpet comes with a 7 year wear warranty. Cost me £440 all in for dining room, living room, hallway and a small bedroom, this is considered fairly cheap.
