sweetpasta asked me ^^

This is a tutorial to make this icon :

I'm using Photoshop 7.

I will use this picture where the bird's presence is suggested by the tail, and this one where Torii, the little bird, is shown flying.

First, I choose my background and use this texture

then I apply this brush
  (by someone in my credit post but can't remember who! =__= ) 2 times :
 in black, and on another layer above the black one, in white. All these layers are on "normal" mode.
We've got this :

Now, I crop the image of the boys, resize it for the icon, and rotate it a little. I duplicate it and put it to "soft light"100%, then desaturate it. I go back to the first layer of the 2 boys and sharpen it.

On a layer above the 2 layers of the boys I use this polaroid brush

gender that I rotate too.
We have this :

Now, I crop the 2nd picture where there's the bird flying. I erase all around Torii with the magic wand and the eraser, resize it to fit on the icon.


The first layer of Torii is on "normal". I duplicate it and set it to "screen" 65 %.

I use this gradient
to soft light 100% and this one
  to soft light 100% too.
Then I duplicate the image of the boys, put it to soft light 39% above the gradients and all the other layers.

Let's put some lights on this icon :
Under the 2 layers of Torii, I use this light

3 layers on screen mode 100%
the 4th on the top of the 3 on screen 73%

I put this texture

missymw88icons above all my layers, soft light 53% and here is the final icon!
