SUMMARY: Lithuania's getting ready for an important dinner, but Poland comes over and finds out Lithuania can't stay with him. Lithuania remembers when he and Poland used to have fun together.
Lithuania sighed as he pushed his clothes, empty hangers, and an assortment of shoes and boxes around in the closet, looking for the new suit he bought recently for the occasion.
“Why can’t I find anything in this closet?” he thought. “I need to get this stuff organized, or at least get rid of some of this stuff…”
Finally after a few more minutes of searching through the black hole of his personal belongings, Lithuania found the dark blue suit sandwiched between his spare uniform and another suit that he didn’t realize he owned. He laid it neatly on his bed and looked at it. It still looked like he just bought it; however, after being buried between masses of fabrics, it was now filled with wrinkles. Sighing, he went downstairs to the storage closet to fetch the iron and ironing board.
After the iron was heated, Lithuania spread the suit over the ironing board and began to smooth out all the wrinkles. He started to hum an old folk song that he heard a long time ago that he danced to with Poland…ah Poland. He wasn’t going to be too happy to hear that Lithuania was going to an important dinner with his boss and several other important leaders and politicians and he wasn’t invited. Setting the iron down, Lithuania glanced up at the clock hanging on the wall; 6:15pm, which meant it was only twenty-five minutes away from being 6:30pm which was the time Poland always came over to visit every month, and forty-five minutes away from the time he had to leave.
Folding the suit over his arm, Lithuania proceeded back up the stairs to his room to get ready. He put the suit back down onto his bed and hopped into the shower for a quick rinse. Stepping out of the shower and wrapping a towel around his waist, he started to dry off his hair when the bathroom door burst open with a loud bang; Lithuania thought his heart would stop from the shock.
“Like, OH MY GOD Lithuania! I totally knocked on your door and you, like, didn’t answer!”
“Poland! You scared me to death! Well if I didn’t let you in…then…how did you get into my house?”
“It was, like, totally easy! You had a downstairs window open so I totally used a pony to lift me up high enough to let me crawl through it!”
Lithuania could only stare at the other nation in a look of pure wonderment at the strange-ness of his friend’s ways of thinking. “But…where did he get the pony?” he thought to himself.
“So Lithuania, are you, like, totally as excited as I am to hang out tonight?!” Poland asked with a huge grin. “I brought the coolest movie we can watch, and we can totally make caramel corn to eat while watching the movie, and, like, braid daisy crowns, and-”
“Um, Poland?” Lithuania cut him off.
“Like, what is it Lithuania?”
“I…well…I have a very important dinner that I have to attend with my boss tonight. I would have told you sooner, but it was last minute so…”
“But, but this is totally, like, our night to hang out together! We never get to see each other as much as we used to with all of your meetings!”
“I know Poland…I’m sorry, but I really can’t miss this dinner.”
“Fine then Lithuania! Like, totally just be that way! See if I care!” Poland said before slamming the door in Lithuania’s face. He could hear the nation running down the stairs, but didn’t hear the slamming of the front door so he came to the conclusion that Poland was still inside his house.
Sighing and rubbing his fingers against his forehead, he wondered if Poland was always this much trouble when he still lived with Russia, or if it was just because he had recently been to busy to come visit like he used to now that he was independent again. Well, he didn’t think Poland was going to be leaving anytime soon, so he continued to dry and brush his hair. Lithuania then proceeded to get dressed seeing as he only had about twenty-five minutes to get ready before the car came to pick him up.
After spending a few extra unnecessary minutes looking for the right shoes (only to realize they had been right by the door where he set them earlier that day), Lithuania made his way down the stairs to find Poland stretched out on his couch. Walking closer, he could see that his friend was asleep. And that the streaks of tears could be seen on the nation’s cheeks. Lithuania quietly came up to the couch and knelt down beside the sleeping form of Poland.
“What happened to us Feliks?” Lithuania softly whispered as he gently wiped a stray tear from one of Poland’s closed eyes. “We used to be so close…I miss all the fun we used to have together…Remember when we would go to the festivals and you would always make me dance with you? Why can’t we do that like we used to?”
Lithuania closed his eyes. He could see the image of them both in their traditional costumes running through the crowded and festive streets, and if he thought hard enough, he could even smell the scent of the potato-meat dumplings cooking and the cool breezy aroma of a summer evening. He remembered Poland grabbing his hand and pulling him into the crowd of dancers, the spinning, the twirling, the sound of the people clapping and laughing, and looking into those bright emerald eyes…just the two of them…
“Well if you didn’t, like, spend so much time at meetings and with your boss, we could totally dance like that again Toris!”
Lithuania jumped at the sudden sound in the quiet room.
“P-Poland! I thought you were asleep!”
“I totally was, but you totally woke me up with all your talking.”
“Uh…I…umm…”
“But, like, really? Why can’t you take some time off? I’m so totally lonely when we aren’t together!”
Lithuania smiled, “I know, Poland…You know…you’re right. I think I should take some time off.”
“So, you’ll totally skip out on this dinner and stay and watch a movie, and make caramel corn, and-”
Laughing, Lithuania leaned forward until their foreheads touched.
“I’m afraid I can’t miss this one. But I promise when I get back, and for a week after, we can hang out like we used to; no meetings, no work, just us.”
Right as the little hand of the clock climbed to 7, the horn of a car honked outside of Lithuania’s house.
Letting a small sigh escape him, Lithuania got up off the ground and fixed his suit. As he headed for the door he turned back to Poland and said, “Sorry I need to go now, but don’t worry, I’ll be back soon.”
Just as his hand touched the door knob, he felt Poland’s arms wrap around him. Turing back around, he looked down into the rich green eyes that looked up at him.
“You, like, totally promise we can hang out when you come back Toris?”
Smiling, Lithuania bent down and gave Poland a kiss on the cheek. As the horn of the car honked again, Lithuania opened the door.
“I promise Feliks.”
Stepping outside and gently closing the door behind him, Lithuania made his way to the waiting car that would take him to another long and boring dinner with his boss and important people.
As he got into the car he smiled and greeted his boss. Lithuania’s boss smiled back, “Are you ready for the dinner?”
Looking out the window of the car he could see Poland waving from the upstairs balcony. The promise of them being together soon, running through the rye fields and dancing to the light of the moon filled Lithuania’s mind.
Turning back to his boss, Lithuania smiled.
“I just can’t wait for it to be over.”
