I don't like Seychelles, anyone who even tangentially knows who I am knows I don't like Seychelles. I admit I acted really stupid about that fact when I first got into fandom and since then have apologized for it and now prefer to ignore her existence. And before everyone goes "Sexist yaoi fangirl" on me, may I say Taiwan, Belgium, and Hungary are some of my favorite characters.

That being said, those DA hate groups are stupid. Why focus your energy on something you don't like? I'd rather spend my time doing and paying attention to things that, you know, I do enjoy ( ... )

Considering the nature of the Gakuen Hetalia PSP game, it's much more of a Visual Novel than a Dating Sim by itself. However, the form of the game was close of an Otome one so I can't really tell.

But as I said, not everyone is forced to like Seychelles for different reasons. She's not my favourite Hetalia character, but I hate when people go and bash a female character with the infamous "Mary-Sue" term.

True, but even if it was a visual novel I feel like it could have been done differently...I vaguely recall a mini game-like thing a while back where you play Picardy, I think? And you can talk to France or something...but I don't think their face was ever shown and you could enter any name you want. That's the kind of fannish thing I'm talking about. I just feel disappointed and a little slighted they didn't so something more similar to that, and instead made a game where you play a character I don't really care for, rather than a blank slate. But that's me, and not everyone so, different strokes for different folks ( ... )

I get what you mean on your point about the Visual Novel.

That part with Canada changes the whole story, then. Since I only saw bits of the game, I thought it was more neutral. I get why it maddens people, now.

Yeah, I wonder if they'll ever make a game like that?

But, as I said, don't look too much into the Canada thing, because I could be way, way off. I only saw the part where she ran into him while she was with England, and the part I mentioned where he was like "no one understands me like you do." Which, understandably made me go "Uh....what?" since I had assumed before they only interacted a few times and even then, not very much. But I could be missing a huge, huge chunk of something, so it's just my impression.

I can actually understand that. Considering that pretty much the entire Hetalia cast has enemies and friends and complex relationships with other nations, having just this one girl that doesn't have any enemies where everyone is her friend is kind of...I wouldn't say she's a mary-sue either, perhaps just that she's not a very good character.

No, it's one of the points that irks me about her. Sure, she snaps at England and he gets bristly with her, but England gets bristly at everyone. I think the one instance of someone not liking her was Spain? Or I may be confusing the games with something else.

But, yes, basically, that is exactly how I feel. Even if she's shown for as short of a time as she is, you think we'd get a feel of people she doesn't get along with, but...that's not the case.

Oh, I um. Sorry for the double comment, because I feel like I need to clear something up?

I think it’s fine to dislike a character or thing or pair for whatever reason, but going out of your way to declare your hatred from the rooftops or recruit people to your “cause” or list reasons why character X sucks and no one should like them is just…I don’t understand it. I will say “I don’t like X/Y” when asked in a meme or simply when I say “please don’t write me a fic with character X, or pairing Y/Z because I don’t care for them” or in fandom discussion where I will say “I don’t like character A for Z reason, and I don’t care for X/Y because of B reason.”

But I will never say no one should like these things, and I don’t think anyone who does like the things I don’t is a horrible person. You can dislike whatever you want for whatever reason you want, but act like an ass about it, is I guess what I'm saying :|a
