The first match I watched, the vuvuzelas kept putting me to sleep. I nodded on and off. After watching a couple of matches, I already get used to them.
Ahh I wouldn't count out Côte-d'Ivoire, they actually have some good players (or is Drogba confirmed as out?) who play in Europe so they could trip up the Portugese. I don't think that game would end up in a lopsided score against Côte-d'Ivoire. :o
Oh DPRK. Seen them play at the U20 where they actually had a chance to make it to the Quarters I think but they lost in a good game (and their WC history I remember hearing they made it to the Quarter finals in 1966). The team was so sad too--remember the stadium where I was working, and other teams present, gave them a standing ovation. AND, there were a group of supporters holding united Korea flags chanting "Corea! Corea!". It was something. :') /blahbalhtalesofavolunteer
Oh! Good. Because last I was following the pre-WC news, he was part of the long list of 'casualties' of pre-WC injuries whom no one knew if he'd be available.
When I played minors, that was against the rules. But then again, the team we were against (a squad from Owen Hargreaves' old club all cocky and arrogant since he was named to the English squad), the girl tried to sneak her cast into the game by wearing a long sleeved jersey and given the playing surface--astroturf...--no one would've suspected a thing. I got knocked in the chest and two my teammates got hit in the face and we reported her at half time and she was ejected from the game/told to sit out the match. 8(
Guess they might not play him because if his arms get up, then the other team would have a valid case against them for every tap or hit. :o
I guess you can do that. I know for facial injuries some players wear a cover/mask over the injured area. Perhaps in minors you could do that too so long as you didn't do what this girl did.
That's what I remember we wondered at half time. But she definitely played 25 minutes (indoor soccer) with a cast on. I'm trying to remember if it was a plaster(?) cast or a plastic cover thing, but I'm remembering the former since we saw the ref look at her arm.
I sprained a few digits as goalie and I know I wouldn't be able to play with a splint so I have no idea why she would've risked further injury. (Not cause I couldn't bend the injured finger, but cause if it was part of a hand used to stop a shot, I would really, really, really feel it)
Oh that's true, I'm definetly not expecting anything as lopsided as Australia. The more I think about it, the more reluctant I am to make a call for that match hahah. i do hope Côte d'Ivoire wins though
D'awwwwwwwww oh that story warms the heart. That's so lovely! Everywhere else I've been hearing some pretty vicious, rampant N. Korea hate, so that story's preeeeeeeeetty amazing.
me too. not much of a fan of Portugal...especially after the gong show the Netherlands-Portugal match devolved into at the 2006 WC. Both parties were pretty guilty though
I know! I think the N.Korean U20 team was basically a team that didn't follow the "stereotype" and the current view much of the world had of the country. I had to, as a member of the Media Relations team, sit in for a few practice sessions and I got to see them practice--they were having so much fun here (in Ottawa) at their practices.
I think was moved most of us were the [United] Korean flags being waved by this modestly-sized group of Koreans. Because most of us knew how much S.Koreans hate the North so it was like "awww...lookat what football does :'C"
if australia can't win a match, NEITHER CAN NEW ZEALAND OKAY.
for real though I feel so sorry for Côte d'Ivoire and North Korea. Those are some big'ns you're up against, fellas.
also
who is starting to hear vuvuzelas in their sleep?
