I Aten't Dead!
Hey all! Sorry it's been sooooo long since the last "Become One With Russia" update. You see, my computers--plural--have had an Adventure.
First, it was going into summer and I didn't want to run that gigantic house with my old computer in the room furthest away from the not-so-great-anyway air conditioner. Fair enough.
Then my computer went SPLOT.
And it took over a month to finally get and set up my new one.
Then the house basically said "Fuck y'all" and started falling apart, resulting in a repair job that lasted THREE. DAMN. WEEKS. There were the contents of most of two rooms stuffed into the already small living room, nobody could sleep properly, we couldn't use the bathtub (ever try washing waist-length hair in the kitchen sink? I don't reccommend it)...it was awful.
By the time it was over we were EXHAUSTED and it was well into fall. Around then I got my new computer, hurray! I had very, very carefully backed up my Sims 2 stuff. I thought I had it in a seperate, different folder from the one that my new game would have to install into...
...but nope! Turns out that was just a shortcut link to my ACTUAL My Documents folder and I hadn't noticed...
...and I had just. Wiped out. EVERYTHING.
All my CC, all my characters, my stories, my legacy family, my challenges, the gorgeous castle I made...everything.
:'(
But, I have now FINALLY finished getting back as much of my old CC as is still available, using Bodyshop to preview and get rid of custom clothes/hairs/makeup etc. that turned out to not work or look right in my game. AND townyfing. Man, this took forever...
(This doesn't get me back my familes, though. Sniff. I think I can redo the Williamses more or less from memory and the pictures I have of them--and they've been through a major game apocalypse before!--but the others...)
Does this mean no more Become One With Russia? Nyet, comrade! I have easily at least 3 or 4 updates' worth of pictures I haven't posted yet + already-written notes. And although I didn't come to the "proper" ending, I think I was coming pretty darn close to AN ending, so I'm'a count that as a victory and go home.
And then there's the futzing-around period, from before the challenge. Some amusement there, too.
So, to sum up: I'm not dead, I screwed up royally but am carrying on (I'm afraid I didn't keep calm, though), and there will indeed be more Become One With Russia to come. Hopefully soon.
