[News] Concerning Doujinshi

Apr 19, 2011 17:06

So!

This may be old news for a few of us, and not relevant to everyone, but it's still pretty major! Especially if you're using the service in question.

FromJapan, the cheapest deputy service out there, has recently made doujinshi the hardest thing to purchase.

They no longer accept any orders from Toranoana, due to "copyright issues." Worse ( Read more... )

I knew this had a new thing because when I was purchasing, they refused to buy anything adult (although they still did). But luckily I canceled my order. So yeah, it really pissed me off that they made NO clear indication they changed policy. I'll still recommend them if you want worksafe stuff but overall, not something you want to use if you're not planning to use two proxy services.

Mandarake made their policies harder to since they won't let you buy anything adult with a credit card.

Mitarashi Dango said that they're probably be back this month. Hopefully before Super Comi.

So we're out really (I refuse to buy anything from miharu_hana since that fee is way too damn high).

This really sucks. It's either wait out on Mitarashi or a group order if you want the bang out of your buck.

Yeah, they're great for worksafe things. FJ will still be my number one choice for Animate and Movic and such.

But fff doujinshi's too addictive.

From what I've seen, miharu_hana looks cheaper than MitaDango, actually. For a single doujin, she's cheaper than FJ too... But maybe it's just because none of my friends have ever had a good experience with MitaDango.

For one or two doujins or anything from Ruten, miharu_hana is great. It's just when you order more than one or two things (or anything from yj) that her prices get out of control.

But for cheap doujin yeah, but as miezen will tell you (she used both), Mitarashi comes out much cheaper in the end (especially if you're buying anthology or more expensive doujin like I do).

I will say that it's not normal for Mitarashi to act slow like that. I used her 5 times, but the last one her partner was really unusually slow. But I'm willing to let go because the first four times the service was really good, and they did compensate me for the wait.

Exactly. I vastly prefer Mitarashi Dango, but miharu_hana is the best substitute I've been able to find, unfortunately. Her prices are roughly the same as MitaDango's for your standard doujin, but once you start going for anthologies, etc, as tsuki said, it gets out of control.

And I can vouch for what tsuki's saying re; Mitarashi being slow being an unusual thing for them. It's kind of obvious that something or other was up that pushed them to hiatus, after all, and I've always had great luck with them.

Yeah, miharu_hana charges 210 yen to a US dollar, considering the current rate is 124 yen to a dollar. Yeah, it won't matter much to a 400-600 yen doujin, but when anthologies can cost 1500-2500 yen although, you're basically paying close to 3000-5000 yen BEFORE shipping. Yeah, no.

So the anthology problem is the base price, not the weight?

I should probably start getting quotes both from her and from FJ on the one I want, but... =n= I wonder how far FJ's rule goes. K-Books doujin don't come sealed, so if the cover doesn't say R-18, are they going to look through it for any chance to take the book away?

I know from experience that there can be tons of material that's not worksafe in books that have no age warning...

Yup. Mitarashi charges the same with anthologies as thin doujins and it gets cheaper with more books you buy, which made them the ideal service.

Last time I check, miharu_hana charges (price of book in yen) x .0021, it's not bad for a cheap book but you're basically paying 2x for the book alone before shipping fees. Seriously, only shipping fees should be affected but a lot of proxy services like to charge more on more expensive stuff simply because, weight will not matter unless it's shipping, and that's why you have to watch out for people like that.

Was it like 300 yen per book, or such? then 200 per, depending on amount? I haven't been to the site in a while.

I guess the best thing to do is count up the order, then choose how to buy it later...

Yes, 300 yen per book, it goes down the more books you buy. I think commission was like near 3000 yen for 15 books so it was pretty reasonable to me.
