~
All those things that just happened to happen
What brought us together is now falling apart
I said that how life takes us probably be cannot be changed
After all, someone's tears will still be falling down
~Luka Megurine, Just Be Friends
“I know I said I like your beaches, love, but your rainfalls are just as impressive.”

The Philippines put the tea cup down in front of the other Nation perched lazily on one of her veranda chairs. “That’s the first time someone phrased it that way,” she said dryly. “Australia.”

He winced. She so did not like being reminded of Ondoy.

Daniel laughs, a rich, deep laugh that comes out rather strained but stood out against the soft sounds of rain hitting the roof. “You’re special, ‘Ria.” He reached over to pat her on the head, willing himself to stop reddening any more under her unfocused gaze. “I knew it the moment I laid eyes on you.”

She blinked her dark eyes and suddenly snapped in attention. “Since you first met me? So.. the war? I first met you there, right?” Maria glanced at the man opposite her, not noticing the way his usually-cheerful green eyes slowly began blank.

The Filipina decided to focus her attention to the kakanin in front of her when the Australian averted his gaze. Fully aware that she wasn’t paying any attention to him, Australia stole a meaningful glance at her (as she took the spoon out of her mouth and said “mainit, mainit”), and what he didn’t say was, You’ve seen me before, love. Why can’t you remember me the way you did Alfred?

But he already knows the answer, and when he hears Maria shout “Aussie! Come back! Mababasa ka!” he suddenly feels aware of the rain hitting his dirty-blond hair, and the warmer ‘rain’ falling from his cloudy green eyes.

Australia fought back something like a broken sob in his chest (after all, he had hidden this so well for centuries; he wasn’t supposed to be sad over this one sentence) as he struggled with his words. Dismissing her worries with a wave of his hand, he turns his face away and forces his lips in an imitation of his cheery grins. “I-I’m all right, love.”

He stood there in the rain, and what he didn’t say was, This is the only place where you can’t see me cry.

A/N: AUSSIE WHAT I DO TO YOU! YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING TO DESERVE THIS, DARLING. orz (And mods, sorry for my mistake, hope you didn't notice it - I just had to edit this manually, LJ's Rich Text input must be hating me)
