Possibly you could have Alfred buying or renting Arthur's home. Or perhaps Arthur is hoping to marry into Alfred's family (feel free make up a sister or cousin for Alfred); the Kirkland fortunes would be buoyed by a generous american dowry, while the Jones family name would be distinguished by a connection to european aristocracy. Or they could meet some other way, it's your choice.

Summary: Arthur Kirkland, old English nobility, and Alfred Jones, new American money, hit it off fabulously. Or not.
