Raivis felt uncomfortably stressed the entire duration of the hug. He wanted to be anywhere else in the world but where he was now. Every second moved by at such a tantalizingly slow rate. But, as scared as he felt during the hug, he was more afraid of what could happen next. A rough hug was hardly the end of his problems. Had his body fully registered what was happening, the thought would be enough to make him cry.

The freshmen had lowered his gaze as far down as room had allowed during the brunt of the hug, but once Ivan had pulled away, he looked up at him. His eyes felt a little hollow when he was asked if he had been good. The other man’s use of the word was often his only warning and even if it hadn’t been used in such a way, the reflexes didn’t forget. “I’ve been doing pretty well, what about you?” he returned, hoping to keep the conversation mellow.

His body continued to shake as his head was petted. That voice and its strange praise were quickly driving him to tears. But, he had to say something, “Yes, I finally grew. Still haven’t gotten to five four yet, though,” he said, trying to fake a smile and make light of the situation.

His heart sunk even further at Ivan’s itinerary. Raivis couldn’t have been caught at a worse time, it seemed. His eyes watered up a little as he was pressed more firmly onto Ivan’s body. His hands moved to Ivan’s chest, just lightly sitting there. “O-o-of course,” he stammered, “R-really… lucky…”

Ivan was content with Raivis' response, since he would've been mad if the boy had been bad while they were apart. Still, it was better safe than sorry, as his mind started to already plan punishments for him to make sure he stayed that way. Plus he had to make sure the boy never, ever left him all alone again.

The corner of his mouth twitched a bit, almost as though his smile had cracked, for a split second from the memory of that. "I have been very good, thank you. It's been boring playing with less than half the people I knew from high school though. You remember the Bad Friend Trio, yes? They're here too."

He continued to apply pressure to the poor boy's head, tugging curiously at a few curls here and there. "You're right, but there is still some time left to grow before you become an adult. I can always help you with that if you like~"

His smile grew more mischievous as he stared down directly into the boy's watered eyes. It was eyes like those he missed the most, ones that showed very clearly how scared and worried he was. "So now that we can be together again, mind showing me where your dorm is?" He turned his head towards the Franz Joseph I building and gazed up at it. "I assume it's in this building."

Raivis was really just waiting for the critical moment when he said the wrong thing. He knew it would come eventually, the odds increasing every time he opened his mouth. There were just so many wrong things to say that it was inevitable. He’d either make Ivan mad or he’d make him too happy. He was affectively damned either way.

The Latvian recoiled a little as he saw the miniscule break in Ivan’s expression. He had no way of knowing what had caused that… but he hoped desperately it wasn’t him. He started to calm back down to mild heart attack level as he noticed the smile had only slightly faded for a moment.

He didn’t remember the Bad Friend Trio that well, honestly. He probably hadn’t spent a whole lot of time around them. If they were Ivan’s age, then odds were that it was only one year at the most in High School. “Oh yeah… they’re seniors like you, right? That’s still pretty interesting that so many people from High School are here,” he offered.

The tears continued to form at Ivan’s growth suggestion. He didn’t even know what that could mean. Growth was a natural process… Though, something reminiscent of a medieval torture device did come to mind. He figured it was best not to remind Ivan that he was actually an adult already. “W-w-well… hopefully it doesn’t come to that.”

Raivis shivered a little harder against the hand on his head. He didn’t want to show the senior his dorm room, the idea making him pale further. Lying was out of the question, though. “My dorm room? Oh yeah, it’s in there, but it’s nothing special, just… uh like everyone else’s. Probably more boring, actually.”

Ivan was currently at the point of almost being too happy, which by judging at how tight his hold was on Raivis, could easily cause him to break the boy's spine in two in a hug. He figured this already, since he knew how strong he could be, but he really didn't care. At this rate, they might not even be like this for much longer, as his curiosity was starting to blossom about Raivis' dorm room.

He nodded his head. "Yes they are. They were the silly little boys that used to get in trouble a lot. I even had one of them live with me in the dorms for a while," he said, giggling a little when he thought back to that, "He was very... affectionate. But enough about me. Did you make any new friends yet?"

It's not like it mattered anyway, seeing that he was bound to meet them eventually, but he couldn't help but ask. If he saw that even the shy one made more friends than him, then he would just have to fix that. He didn't think it was fair to keep them as all to himself. He took his hand off his head, and lightly patted his cheek. "It may not be necessary at all. Let us hope that."

His smile grew wider, hinting a bit of mischief between the cracks, after learning to was in fact where he was staying. "Well even if it is boring, I would like it see it. That way I know where to go when I want to visit you. You will show me, yes?"

Raivis could feel the slow increase on the strength he was being held with. By now it was beyond being just uncomfortable, it hurt. The tears that were pooling around his eye socket finally spilled down his face a little. He had no choice but be pressed close to Ivan. If he had tried to keep his distance, he probably would have broken something already.

He tried to remember more about the Bad Friend Trio. Given their name, they had to be pretty infamous. Who would even want to be called that? The giggle gave him another emotional jab, even though he wasn’t the cause of it. Affectionate… he wasn’t so immature that he couldn’t guess what that meant. Yet another person Raivis would have to try to avoid, even though there was no reason to assume he’d have any interest in him.

Raivis thought about Ivan’s question. He didn’t know if he could really count the older student he had met at the picnic as a friend. He had been friendly… but perhaps he was just polite. He also had really had much contact with his roommate yet, so he couldn’t be counted, either. Then again… he wasn’t sure he wanted to tell Ivan that he hadn’t made any friends. That seemed like a bad idea. “W-well, just a couple. Never too late to make a new friend, though, right?” he asked, smiling past his tears.

“Y-Yeah,” he responded with an abbreviated nod as he felt the hand on his cheek, which sent a shiver down his already shivering body.

Raivis’ attempt at remaining out in open and not showing Ivan his room failed. He didn’t have any way to continue to stall, either. “O-of course, I-I just don’t want to waste too much of your time,” he replied.

He gulped, “We can go there right now.” He couldn’t really go anywhere the way he was being held. It almost made him want the arm to never leave his waist.

Ivan felt Raivis press close against him, and took that as an acceptance to the hold on him. Unable to miss the lovely sight of his tear streaked face, he should've noticed it was more likely from pain, but he didn't consider it. He was too excited at the moment to think about the boy's misery, but the slight distraction did cause him to stop tightening his hold temporarily.

It had been a long time since he actually heard of their group name, so he wasn't even sure if he had the name right. Still, it wasn't hard to forget such strange, rowdy people, and that's all that mattered to him. He doubted Raivis would meet them anyway, unless he went to one of the college parties. In that case, he'd definitely have to escort him for his own protection.

He didn't continue tightening his hold just yet, since he approved of Raivis' answer. He didn't like the idea of his friends being alone, which was why he tried to get them to hang around him often so neither of them felt lonely. He failed to realize the problem with that, and may never will. "I'm glad to hear it. I made a new friend too. He's really shy like you are."

He finally decided to let Raivis go, only to quickly grab his hand right afterward, his large hand nearly swallowing up the boy's smaller hand. "Do not worry about that. I have plenty of time to spare, so let's go." With that, he made his way inside the building, while dragging Raivis from behind.

Raivis couldn’t tell whether or not he was being held tighter or not. He wasn’t even sure how much of his pain was physical and how much of it was emotional. He just knew he was hurting on all levels. He didn’t know why Ivan seemed to take so much pleasure in this, especially not if the Russian really considered them friends. Between the shivering and crying, he was making it pretty clear that he wasn’t comfortable and friends shouldn’t try to hurt each other. But, that mystery wasn’t news.

He didn’t know how to respond to Ivan having a new friend, especially if that friend was shy like him. On a selfish level, it would mean that Ivan’s time couldn’t be focused on himself. But he couldn’t feel good about Ivan giving his brand of affection, either. It didn’t really change how he had to reply to Ivan. If he liked the situation or not, he had to pretend he did. “Th-that’s good, where d-did you meet him?”

Raivis exhaled as he was let go, his body relaxing momentarily. The hand grab slapped him back into tensing. His hand was too small to hold Ivan’s hand back, though he still tried. Appeasement was the key to survival. His arm was soon feeling the pain his spine had been relieved of as he was dragged through the doors of the building. “W-well that’s good to hear… it’s on the third floor…” he said as he tried in vain to keep up. As it was, he could barely find any footing, so his walking was sort of haphazard.

Ivan was sadistic. Plain and simple. Ever since he had taken the hobby for releasing his anger out on others, he enjoyed seeing their pained faces as they beg for mercy. Sadly only those he really, really liked knew about this, for he had told them this himself about his past, so anyone else that had the misfortune of being one of his victims was left in the dark about it.

He understood quite well that friends are supposed to stick together and support each other, but he failed to grasp that they shouldn't hurt each other. He thought he was doing it for their own good. That reminded him of his new friend. How was he going to deal with that one? It would definitely be different, but he figured time will only tell. "I met him at the picnic the other day."

He would've held on tighter to Raivis to avoid him trying to escape, but he doubted it'd be necessary. The boy was too fragile to mishandle anyway. He could shatter his hand if he held on any tighter, much like his spine could have been. "All the way up there? Looks like we're taking the stairs then!" Even though he knew that there were most likely elevators they could take instead, he wanted to drag this out as long as possible.

Raivis hadn’t been aware of Ivan’s presence at the picnic, if he had; he doubted he would have been able to be as collected as he had been. As it was, his nerves had been pretty high, the possibility of the Russian finding him would have ruined the whole evening. At least he had gotten a few days of unsuspecting campus life in before this reunion.

As long as Ivan’s new friend hadn’t told the tall student his schedule or dorm location, he was probably free from Ivan’s clutches. If he had any faith in humanity, which he did, then he would have to believe that no one would surrender that information while they were surrounded by witnesses. If he did, then there was no helping him. “O-oh, h-how nice,” he replied.

“Th-the stairs?” he questioned weakly as he was pulled toward them. Raivis looked as the elevators left his view. He wasn’t sure he could take that cramped space right now anyway. Being in a closed area with Ivan would probably just speed his grim fate along. At least taking the stairs would take some of the Russian’s focus, it always took his. He had also found another reason to appreciate his room’s location. If Ivan thought it was a hassle to go up to the third floor, he may not come as often. “Good idea,” he agreed.

Ivan had begun to draw up ideas on how to get closer to his new friend. If he was anything like Raivis, then touching him too frequently would be a bad idea. As fun as it would be to watch him fluster up and faint like he used to, he learned that overdoing it scares them away. Why else would Raivis had join the other two in abandoning him so long ago? "He's cute like you too."

His big-boned body disagreed with his idea to use the stairs, what with the long walk he just took, but he assured himself that the exercise would be good for him. Especially with Raivis around to keep him company. So as they climbed up the stairs, half his mind focused on the stairs, while the other half was on the boy. "I'll have to get used to doing this a lot, yes? Lucky for me, my room's on the second floor of the Jeanne D'arc building."

Raivis didn’t know how he should feel about being called cute. He was an eighteen year old man, not a little kid or a puppy. He was probably supposed to prefer other adjectives. But he still couldn’t feel all that bad about a compliment, even given the source. He didn’t even consider any other meanings of the word. “Oh, that’s nice. What’s his name?” he asked, enjoying the times when the conversation had nothing to do with him.

It was not easy climbing stairs and being pulled, his uncoordinated legs complained each step and there were a lot of steps. Even with the jerking that came from the pull, he did his best to keep his eyes trained on the surfaces, trying not to miss any.

“Oh, that’s a nice building.” It was also kind of far, obviously not too far of a walk for Ivan, but at least they were confirmed to be in separate buildings. He didn’t ask for a room number. He was stockpiling excuses to not see the tall Russian for as long as possible. Anything that seemed like an out was worth remembering.

“Almost up…” he said, more to himself, as they started getting close to the top of the stairs.

Ivan thought back to try to remember his new friend's name. It was something short, he knew that, so it shouldn't be that hard, but it was hard to think while concentrating on getting up the stairs. "Ah... I think his name was Kiku. Yes, that must be it. A cute name for a cute boy, yes?" he answered, feeling a bit content with himself for remembering.

"It is. I think it is one of the best buildings, but maybe I'm being a little biased." Finally they reached the top of the stairs, yet he kept his grip on Raivis. He looked around the hall, then realized that he had no idea where to go next. "So what iss your room number?"

“Kiku… kiku… That is kind of cute,” he chimed, saying it a couple times just for the fun of it. He wasn’t lying, it was a cute name, but he was a little taken back by his own cheery attitude toward it. Raivis was sure that it was still ‘be very afraid’ time, which could only escalate higher by two more steps. If nothing else, his mind needed to rediscover its sympathy toward this Kiku person, not just repeat his name because it had a nice ring to it.

“Y-yeah,” he replied out the building, not really sure what else could be said.

Raivis was kind of tired by the time they got to his floor. It was a lot of stairs for his short body and they had been moving at a taller person’s pace. But now that he was there, he wished they still needed to go up a few more. “I-it’s three oh six,” he replied, not attempting to lead the way. This was going to be a very long walk down the hall.

Ivan nodded and repeated the name with Raivis to humor him. "Kiku~ Kiku~" Now that he thought about it, it was kind of fun to say. He could even make a little song about to sing to him later. Maybe he'd like it, and it'd help him open up more. That sounded good to him, so he made sure to remember that.

His body was relieved once he made it up the stairs, but he wasn't done just yet. He still had to make it to Raivis's room, which seemed to be pretty far away. "Alright then," he said as he resumed moving along. He didn't need him to lead since the buildings were quite similar.

Strangely, a genuine smile formed as Ivan said Kiku with him. It was just a goofy little moment between old ‘friends.’ The kind of moment any regular pals could have. And it didn’t hurt that a small voice in his head kept telling him that this time would be different, this time he didn’t have to worry about being alone with Ivan. It had been four years after all, people change and Ivan had his moments back in High School. That didn’t mean his heart wasn’t still pounding and his body stopped shaking.

Raivis nodded as he was pulled once again. It actually didn’t take that long before they had reached his door. “H-here we ar-are… h-home sweet h-home,” he said with a shiver as he went to get his key. The few keys he had jangled as he pulled them at and slowly moved it to lock. With a deep breath, he turned the small piece of metal and opened up the door, removing his key. “L-like I said… not much to see.”

Ivan was glad to goof off a little with an old friend, especially one that used to be so shy around him. It's funny how people can change over the years. He still had to be careful though, or he might scare him off again. That was really the last thing he wanted to do. He doubted his heart, that acted as though it wasn't attached at times, could take it.

Even if the room wasn't much, he was still excited to see it. There were all kinds of things he wanted to learn about his old friend, like if he kept some of his old hobbies. "Yay!" He cheered as he went inside. Browsing the place curiously, he realized Raivis was right. There wasn't a lot to see. He wasn't going to let that get to him though. "It's nice and simple, yes? I like that."
