I was a bit angry at first for how they made russia. If I owned hetalia, Russia would be a thin, white haired man with a cold attitude.

Russia's "cruel childishness" was America's propaganda of the Red Scare, when in fact, Russia was scared of America as well. I'm used to it now, though.

Basically, they made Russia too evil than he would have been.

I wasnt expecting that Russia either *even though its mostly America stuff that comes to this country* I never thought of Russia as evil until I remember what I saw in (old) American movies *hardly ever watch*

I like that he has a soft side in hetalia.... it makes him a lot cuter... also I dont like how fandom portrays him always evil... he can be cute and good too...!

I also agree with this- making Russia out to be this hugely evil entity I thought was a tad unfair. I'm not so much bothered by his looks, but I thought the 'so evil he breaks cursed items' thing was a bit much.

Sure, some of it holds water, but then again, what country doesn't do some nasty things in its time?

i'm kind of under the impression that if Russia was made evil, then the other countries should be too.

Then again, I don't really seem him as evil in the strips/show. Maybe I'm weird that way. Or I've read too many Russiamericas where they are both evil bastards anyway so yeah...

Really? o__O I know in high school we learned, and my Russian friend confirmed, that the Russian citizens weren't that affected by the "Red Scare era" because they've been through so much already that it didn't really matter to them the way it freaked out the Americans, though the government was definitely scared of America. But yea, I didn't really get the cursed thing, other than that Russia has had some bad luck in the last century.

oh no, in fact, Russian's were just as scared of "us capitalists nuking them" as we were of "them commies nuking us" my dad was there, he should know XD

That might actually have a little more to do with Japan's view on Russia than America's, don't you think? I mean, considering that the two countries don't really have a running-through-the-flowers kind of friendship and all. I do agree that Russia being super super evil is kind of offensive (I LOVE Russia though... I'm American, though. The more offensive something is, the more I laugh at it). But it's not really fair to blame that just on Americans. I can't speak for the world at large, but I lived in Japan for about 2 years and my best friend is from Russia, and when people found out where she was from they came up with some pretty interesting (and offensive) things to say to her about that >_>

I guess...

huh, it's funny. Russia actually kind of loves Japan. There's a looooot of Japanese stuff over in Russia. Even something called "Russian sushi" which I do not like the sound of.

is that true? I guess Japan is just popular everywhere xD (We have "Texan Sushi" so I feel you on that >_>) But yeah, I don't think that Japanese people in general thing Russians are evil, but they do still seem to have some weird stereotypes in mind. (Not as bad as Americans, though, of course.)

well whether who made the stereotypes or not, it still irritated me, because my whole family is Russian.

No, I totally feel you on that. I think if I were Russian that might bother me, too. Having said that, though, the stereotypes for all the countries could be a LOT worse, right? At least they're funny this way!
