I don't really know much about the history of that time, so I can't say that I was able to fully enjoy the piece (your footnotes helped a hell of a lot though, kudos for that), but I really enjoyed your characterization of Denmark.
Some of that viking badass must still be left in him.

Deep down, underneath the quantum mechanics and stuff, he is still totally a hardcore viking to this very day. That is my story, and I'm sticking to it. :D

Thank you.
Just a note though: I'm quite sure Denmark was in fact the FIRST of the former viking nations to convert to Christianity. Closer to the continent and with stronger ties to the rest of Europe, for one. The last one was Sweden during the first part of the 1100s.

Well, thank you for reading-- I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm a little worried it might be a bit dense and name-dropp-y in that regard, but it's supposed to have a very stream-of-consciousness feel to it, and decided to leave it as it was. Hope it wasn't too much too fast!
Wait, seriously? I'll go check my facts on that. I could have sworn the one in modern-day Norway were the first to convert, but I could be wrong. The geographical....thingy...thing. Distribution. Makes more sense. (Oh, god, sorry, it's like 3 AM here, and I'm having the worst kind of language fail; basically, you can has logic!)

Ngk, I don't have any resource material present, but I'm sure that Sweden (or part of the area that would become Sweden - this is why I have a hard time labelling places and people that would BECOME nations as nations when they WEREN'T) was the last one to convert at least. I think my book on the creation and early hisory of the nationstate of Sweden mention that Denmark had to adapt to Christianity earlier than the rest of the North because of Charlemagne's expansion of the Frankish Empire in the 800s, which reached all the way up to the Danes' lands...

ffffff. Why can't history be like other subjects and just have a nice, sound base of information? Okie dokies! Extensive research, ie, Google tells me....nothing entirely helpful, actually. The name Olaf Tryggvasson (a missionaryish figure) keeps coming up with reference to conversions in Norway, and the impression I'm getting is that any region close to Christianity hotspots got hit first. Makes sense, and then, yeah, Sweden would be the last! And, with the protonations issue....jdhfa;ugfcuhfinorite.

I remember reading this over at the kink meme and probably fangirled quite a bit over this back then. I really liked the extensions and edits you'd added, they bring much more to the story and add to Denmark and Germany's interaction.
And yeah. This is so loaded with all kinds of references that make my not-so-inner nerd grin like a doofus. Gotta hand it to you, that's one heap of research you've done for the fic.
One of my favourite bits was probably: "So when Ludwig goes back to his men and things get too excited and too unstable, he sends a few of his particularly unstable electrons over to Berwald’s place. It’s okay. Berwald’s still neutral. He can handle a harmless bit of charge." Because equivocal words like "neutral" really spice up the text. :)

Hahah, oh, geez, I hope it wasn't seriously overwhelming! They were intended just to be incorporated in a natural sort of way-- you know, the kind of things a guy who is the nation of Denmark might have on his mind in the middle of an occupation. But it's a lot in a very little piece, so I'm glad it wasn't a messy read! And I lucked out, too. Some of those facts I had kicking around from other fics and from classes. Phew. Otherwise...I mean, can you imagine? GAH.

Sh*t this really brings up the national pride in me >D
I LOVED your writing style, so many chaotic thoughts where thrown right in my face to comprehend and I just felt the frustration right through the screen!
Ya know, we still have Asatrú/Forn Sidr (our old religion) people here, though they're very minor since the religion only recently got confirmed as one again. And he was wearing Mjølner? xD nice one~ I laughed so hard when you described Christianity VS Asatrú gods that "careless" wayof writing it just fit perfectly! And I can really relate to it, since I'm not more of a Asatrú myself. Anyways, we do have more religious symbols than Mjølner, but of course that's the most popular among even ourselves.
OMG this little fic made my day! Fuck yeah, don't mess with an angry Dane, Germany, or you'll seriously be sorry XDD

Mm, I'd heard that there's been some revival, but I didn't know there was a name for it-- interesting! Or its status, in general. He could have been wearing any other icon, but I figured that Mjølner would be best, both for the parallel to Thor and to the cross. (Some archaeologists note a striking similarity between early crosses and some of the later hammer pendants, possibly due to acculturation on both sides. XD) Glad I could be of service, tho'-- and thanks for taking the time to read!

Well there's around 1000 registered members of that faith here, and I believe that the number in norway and Sweden is slightly higher.
And when you look at the early crosses you can still see them ingraved with patterns similar to the ones of the Asatrú. But it's probably because it's been a slow transition.
Oh it was a nice read! Thanks for taking the time to write it!

Chemistry is a terrible subject and should be ashamed of itself for the way it treats students. :/ (Which is to say, cool! What science?)
