Aaahhhh Hungary looks so beautiful! ;o; Still hoping he'll do one for Estonia, as Latvia and Lithuania (and all the Nordics) got one too.

In the current official setting, who calls France, the world’s big brother, “big brother”, “brother” or “big bro” and actually means it?

Right now I think Monaco and Italy do, but there are probably others as well.

Hmm... I wonder who these characters are? Seychelles and Canada come to mind for me. The latter seems to be really common in fanworks so it'd be interesting if we got official confirmation on this. In the old Gakuen Hetalia games, France was said to have raised Seychelles so I wouldn't be surprised she did call him that as well.

Edit: I forgot to mention I passed the word through Tumblr via hetaliaarchives (both Andy (FH14/barjonabombers) and I run the blog) so hopefully we'll get some more activity going here. I also passed on the info regarding this entry as well so we can get some ideas flowing again. The old community has become very nostalgic recently on Tumblr but it will be ( ... )

Thank you so much! :)

I don't know if Canada would call France "big brother" because I think if he did that, he might feel like he's favoring France over England. But other than that, I agree that it would make sense.

Sadly, I believe Canada just called him "Mr. France" in a Birz comic. Not like that's going to stop me from pretending Canada calls him something more familiar though XD

Not really. It was posted in the last update dump: http://hetalia.livejournal.com/12786930.html Feel free to start a thread here if you like.

You can talk about older updates, too, just maybe include a link or a description when you do so, to make it easier. (Which you did anyway, so well done.)

Thanks.

I was wondering what were people's opinions about the movie about Yao owing Alfred? Owing money to China is a sensitive subject, and the strip about it bothered me. Even though Americans make a lot of movies where the bad guy is Russian or German. Hima does not show Ludwig or Ivan doing anything wrong or Alfred beating them up to save the day. This movie was clearly showing Yao controlling/owing Alfred. There was not even a closing to it. Just he owns him. It was just upsetting to me is what I am trying to say.

When we RP or write fics or answer questions as Characters. We stay away from current events for that reason. It would be right up there with showing Ivan beating the heck out of Ukraine (Though yes that is an extreme example and many lives have been lost so that would be worse.) The point is it is in bad taste.

There is so much in history he can cover. I just wish he would avoid current events. (Negative ones at the least, even if they are fictional movies based on them.)

That was just based on a movie, which Hetascanlations identified here (The link at the bottom of the post).
Hima did reference movies before, although since I'm usually not familiar with them, I have no idea how old or current they were.
But personally, I'm fine with him referencing current events as long as it's done in a respectful manner. If you want to blame anyone for touching that China issue, blame the already existing fiction, namely the movie in question. ;)

I think it would be a bigger issue if he had depicted the characters in some kind of violent act (although even that could be okay depending on context - Switzerland shooting France back in that one Christmas special was just funny, in my opinion). But debt? That has always been a thing, and I don't think it will lead to any change of character or plot.

I see your point. I have gotten over the butt hurt, but am dreading all the fanart that will come from it... Just reading notes from the translated post was bad enough. ..Though why Hima would think Alfred would want to see a movie about his country taken over (Unless it had a happy ending)..... It was really cool seeing Alfred and Arthur watching a movie together.

Oh yeah, I feel you... fanart and fics can get really unpleasant at the smallest chance given. Then again, they can get pretty unpleasant even when canon material contradicts them.

I actually didn't think of it as America watching the movie, more as him being distracted by the popcorn and England maybe zapping or something. I could be wrong, though, wouldn't be the first time. ^^

Hima did comment on Russia and Germany being bad-guys in moves in vol 5's Hetalia of the Dead.

In all honesty I think that not everything should be painted with a wide brush, some current events are ok to show, others are ok only to hint at or show tastefully and others shouldn't be shown at all. I actually was pleased and I know others too about that china and america doodle. I think as long as no one is getting hurt or killed or it's portrayed in an insensitive manner current events are ok. As an rper I personally do not stay away from some current events, but some I do. It really depends on the situation and issue.

Perhaps I was over reacting a little bit. I am very protective of Alfred who is also my RP character. I can honestly say I am impulsive with my reactions and quick to defend 'my baby' LoL I don't know about any of you, but for me after RPing this character for over a year; I get into the mindset that no one is allowed to hurt him but me.

But back to the movie. Considering it was an Indy film he would have likely had to have rented it. I am sure there is an Indy channel somewhere, but that movie would not be playing on just any channel and he watched enough of it to actually feel worried for Alfred.

I also love to RP my favourite characters (I used to RP Romano, Rome and Bulgaria for several years) and for me I don't really mind any kind of canon. For me, it's more like a revision and updates to my own headcanon. For example, we can see how silly Bulgaria is in the newer comic strips, I used to portray him as someone more serious and stoic.

If you hate/despise the canon information, aren't you denying the author and the author's characterization?

Seriously, I think you should criticize/stay away from the ugly part of the fandom more rather than the author. Like fics about China owning America's ass for his debt

and on lighter note: it's just a parody of a movie so yada yada, the author could parody anything they want, including Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

So you would be cool if Hima made a stip of Romano sinking a cruise ship, killing a bunch of people and then running off to go get drunk like nothing happened? It would be canon...

http://kdvr.com/2013/09/26/human-remains-found-on-italian-cruise-ship-that-sunk-in-2012/

I am not denying the author(s) characterization. But It does not mean I have to like it.

As much as I would say "why would I object?", it's a movie made by the Americans. So yeah why not having Alfred hand over a script to Romano with all those stuffs. I would also like to see Hima parodying "The Bicycle Thief".

I won't be offended having Romania portrayed as Dracula like those American movies. Or HK parodying Kungfu Hustle. Like, it's a parody. Will it crush your character personality? Not at all. Will it produce more fanarts? Probably. Will it ruin my beloved character? Nope. Will I not love this character because of the parody? Nope.

A movie parodying something being parodied into a series of parody, we're talking about that to begin with
