Michael Bennett hated China. He's been working in Beijing for only three months and already he hated the air pollution, the spitting of the locals and the fact that his company had to pay for a special VPN just to bypass the Great Firewall.

However, there was compensations and he was gazing at one of them in East Palace, one of the most exclusive bars in the city.In the soft glow of silk lamps, amidst the pseudo-Oriental rosewood decor sat the most enchanting creature he had ever laid eyes on on a bar stool, pensively twirling his wine glass in his elegant hand.Of medium height, he had ebony hair cascading over his shoulder in a loose ponytail, a translucent porcelain complexion and small, delicately boned features.Almost feminine in his beauty, he seemed to shimmer in the darkness like a spirit.

"May I join you?" Phoenix eyes narrowed as the slender man in red silk registered the presence of the laowai."Sure, go ahead" whispered soft, rosy lips in clear, though accented English.

"Come here often? I've never seen you before. How about another glass of wine? It's on me."

"No. It's my first time here. I've had enough of this expensive French imported stuff. I'm too old to be drinking this much." The Chinese man gazed at the young yuppies seated at low tables around chatting softly in Chinese and his gaze softened. "It's nice to see some of the young folks enjoying themselves. I remember when the country was too poor and closed to have something like this and we had to eat wild herbs. I only wish the people in the countryside of interior provinces could enjoy the fruits of prosperity too."

"You don't look old enough to be talking like that. You look to be in your twenties."

Lips curved in a mysterious smile."I'm a lot older than I look. You're new here, aren't you? Lots of foreigners here nowadays. It reminds me of the good old days of the Tang dynasty when people from far away lands all congregated on Chang-an to trade and pay their respects to the Emperor of most civilized city under Heaven."

Michael felt that he was falling as he stared into those dark irises draped by long lush lashes...

Suddenly, the trance was broken as a pair of strong, muscled arms wrapped themselves firmly around his companion's chest from behind.

"Aniki! Been waiting long?" A tall, young Korean man said cheerfully as he nuzzled his prey's neck. "Whatcha doing talking to a waegook?"

"Stop that! How many times have I told you not to be late? You know we have important things to discuss about that misbehaving older twin brother of yours..."

"I'm sorry, come on, let's go, let's go! I have the snacks and drinks all ready." The young man threw a challenging glance at Michael.

"Wait!" Michael recovered his wits enough to thrust his business card at the exotic beauty. "What's your name? I'm Micheal Bennett and I'll come again next Friday. I hope to see you here."

"I'm Wang Yao..."

"No, he won't" interrupted the Korean rudely. "Aniki is mine, you hear?" He confiscated the business card and pulled the other out through the exit like a whirlwind by the arm. In a rush, they were gone.
Micheal's face set into a look of grim determination. He'll find Wang Yao again even if he had to scour every hutong in Beijing for him.

Glossary: laowai (Chinese for foreigner)
waegook (Korean for foreigner)
hutong: narrow alleys (Chinese)
Chang-an: modern day Xi'an, capital during Tang dynasty

I am Chinese(hah?? sometimes I kinda doubt this) but have never actually been to China so apologies if I got any detail wrong OTL

Another Chinese!anon here, though from the SEA side, and quite the 'banana'.

Ah~ The Tang dynasty, anon admits to have a fondness for that dynasty, more so for the clothing of that era. Wonderfully lovely fill. Love how writer!anon describes Yao, and awwwwwwwwwww~ Yong Soo... <3333333333

'thwart ing' Hahaha~ Yong Soo is more than eager to thwart Michael away from Yao. 8D

Writer!anon here. Thanks!

I'll write a Tang dynasty fic with Kiku as ambassador if I can find the time but I'm so busy nowadays and that would need historical research to make sure the details are right. Yep, Tang dynasty hanfu for women was revealing and sexy and I'm sure Yao would look good cross-dressed.

I dunno, but I feel kinda dubious that I'm really Chinese sometimes for various reasons...Somehow, it seems kind of hard to believe that my family really came from there. I'm a southerner and some people like to say southern Chinese are not really Chinese plus I've never been there so maybe it's a conspiracy and the country doesn't really exist XD Ok, this is crazy talk...

You're welcome. ^^

Ah, Kiku~ It would be interesting putting the Tang Dynasty and Heian period together, or even the Nara period (with their clothing style highly influenced by the Chinese). Yes, anon really does have quite a passion for clothings. *cough*

Has writer!anon also filled other requests here? Would love to read them!

Hahaha~ My ancestors were from China about... 4 generations back? From where I'm from, we're pretty multi-cultural. Neither have I been to pay Yao a visit yet! XD Parents have already done so. ;A;

Writer!anon here. Yeah, I was thinking of Nara or Heian Japan with Tang.I've been reading up on the Tang dynasty but I don't think I will find the time until next month.

I have filled another request here but I'm afraid that I can't link to it because my identity will become obvious.

My family and lots of people I know have been to China so I hear stories (or I meet people from there) but I guess I should go and see it for myself.:)

Oh? Is it because you've posted it on the main comm? '~' *still hopes to read it* Which pairing/characters did you write about?

Ah~~~ Then I do hope that in the near future there'll be a request for such prompt. I so hope to read them! \o/

*nods* Hearing is one thing, but seeing is wholly something different. ^^

Writer!Anon here.

Recaptcha: denial gaylord (weirdly appropriate lol)

Someone posted a request for Tang!China and Heian!Japan actually, not me.Hope to fill it eventually.

If anyone is wondering about the title, it's taken from this mainland gay movie called "East Palace, West Palace" about a guy who's in love with a policeman who arrests him for cruising in a Beijing park.Guess the guy must be into uniforms and authority figure lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXY3pb8sXnw

Yao has a very long history of teh gay (homosexual emperors lol)actually, will probably write about it someday.

Oh writer!anon, don't worry about misrepresentation, this is spot on! I've lived in China for a while now and totally understand the laowai's initial hate.

I love you so hard for writing about China and the descriptions of his appearance are mesmerizing. Korea is so lovably possessive too! Will you continue this?

Thanks! Maybe next month when I have more time.

I'm totally crazy about Yao and there are lots of China pairings I would love to write XD Who would have thunk that I would be reading Chinese history at my ripe old age after a lifetime as a banana?

He gets some Russia x China love but not enough with other countries...
